It's a little young but should be okay. He should be pretty active at this age and continuing to get more active.
The nice thing about mixes, is that generally the genetic defect the pure breeds have aren't passed on or aren't as severe.
Most common illnesses with a schnauzer is adrenal disease (usually cushings) and diabetes.
Their most common orthopedic issues are luxating patellas (simply surgical fix for this).
Most schnauzers are very healthy dogs, though. A great choice.
One tip: SOCIALIZE. Some schnauzers can be fear aggressors. Once that puppy is fully vaccinated, introduce it to many people and other dogs until it gets comfortable around strange people.

Hey there, I am so glad that you are about to get a mini Schnauzer!!! They are the greatest little dogs. We have one and she is about 4 months old. I have to be honest, it has been the most pleasant pet experience I have ever had!!! EVER!
She is so incredibly smart and so loving to all of the family. She knows that she can get a certain thing from each person. She knows that I am dad and the leader of the house, mom, is sweet and loving. My son and my daughter, are the little boy and girl that will play with her and give her more love than she ever thought possible...haha
When were blessed with her when she was about 7 weeks old, she had her house trouble, that all animals do. She learned very quickly and no more problems!!! This is our first pet we have house trained and it was so easy and I honestly believe it was because of the dog and not our ability!
As for defects, that is impossible to answer because it is a mix.
As for sickness, ours hasn't been sick at all.
In the end, I have to say that she is my bestest little pal (next to the family of course). She follows me every where I go and offers so much love. I didn't think it was possible to love an animal so much.
Mini Schnauzers are a true gift! Anyone that has one will contest to that!

I've had a miniature schnauzer for 13 years. You asked how easily they get sick: My schnauzer, being considerably old for a dog, seldom gets sick, even at her old-age. The only emergency my family has had with her was when she stepped on a bee; we had to get the stinger taken out; but that was caused not by an illness, but by an externality.
You asked, "How active should he/she be?" My answer: Mine was very shy at first, especially on the first day we got her. She was so shy (and hence inactive) that a stranger could've mistaken her for being sick. Also, she liked to get behind people a lot. She was very inactive (because of her shyness) for--well, I can't recall how long because I was 5-years-old at the time (my memory wasn't as good then as it is now), but I'd estimate no longer than 2 to two and a half months. After awhile, like three to four months, she became just as active as any other mini-schnauzer, especially when someone rang the door-bell.
And as for defects: I don't know of any. My dog doens't havve any. I don't know if schnauzer, per se, are prone to defects, but mixed-breeds might be--that's something you might want to keep an eye on.
Hope this helps. And I wish you good luck and lots of joy with your new dog! :)

First a pup shouldn't leave teh mom until 8 weeks old where I live the state law also says that they can't leave mom until 8 weeks old.
Each pup is different. My sister has a litter of Schnoodles (schnauzer/poodle mix) there are 6 pups they are now just 5 weeks old two are very active and all over teh place. 2 are very playful. 1 is somewhat playful but layed back teh last one is very timid.
You should go and spend some time withthe pup and see what it is like.
I have never found them to get sick much actually being a mix they are usually a litlle healthier.
Some vets start shots ot 6 weeks - 8 weeks you may need to check into this especially if teh pup is taken from the mother at 6 weeks it mayloose it's immunity faster.
Good luck with your new pup
