Lemon juice and sit in the sun a lot. That takes a lot of time, and it isn't all that even. Or you can get those spritz-in lighteners, but they need the sun as well.
I had my brown hair professionally bleached five years ago, and go back once a month to have my roots touched up.
My hair is shiny, very blonde, and very healthy.
I wouldn't do it any other way.

Don't bleach it.. Use a hair stripper.. You can get it at wal-mart..It takes out all your color wether its dyed or not.. It makes it white or real light blonde.. If you want to after you strip it you can put any color in it you want..I used to strip mine out instead of paying a salon..Don't try bleach ... It doesn't work. If you peroxide your hair and let the sun dry it, it will get lighter and lighter each time you do it..

I think you can use peroxide although I think lemon juice may work too. They both take a lot of time in the sun and for best results just go to a hair dresser.

You need 40volume peroxide. Go to Salleys and get that it runs aroud 4$. Then pick out a toner. You have to mix them together in a color bottle aplicater.

sun-in!
it's exactly what almost everyone else said... lemon juice and sit out in the sun for a while.
but it makes dark hair a red-ish color. haha.
umm.. don't use peroxide or clorox >< it'll make your hair fall out.
