Do any of my atheist brothers & sister ever feel moved to feel really good and even celebrate because he or she, as a human being of the 21th century, is unburdened by the sad absurdities of a Bronze Age god of war and genocide and slaughter of the innocent and human sacrifice? I know I do. As I read posts here, I feel the need to ask if perhaps there is a particular gene which causes an intelligent person to wrap him- or herself in a primitive and violent religion. Europe, or a good part of it, seems to be disgarding gods and Isabella-esque moral rot. Our nation, alas, our once bright and shining republic of such hope and promise, appears to be stuck in a growing sinkhole and losing the name of action (an ounce of Hamlet there; I'm sorry). What are your thoughts, my noble atheist comrades? Seriously, I would treasure them.

This always comes up: Stalin et al. were not murderers, etc., because they were atheists but because they were mad men in power. The roster of great men and women who were atheists is there for all to see, and, hey, not one of them stoned to death the kids because they answered back.

Most of the responses were on the mark and welcome, but I must say that the reply by jtrusnik came closest to my own life, which is in its twilight not only because I'm older than the T-Rex aboard Noah's ark but also disabled in the wake of a bloody tumor in the environs of my brain stem and, during surgery, a bloody bloody bloody stroke. Rats!

The prevalence of religious beliefs correlates directly with the amount of fear people are feeling. We are living in uncertain times, so the sheep are afraid. When the Dems get back into Washington, get us out of Iraq, and focus on domestic issues, people will start feeling better, and religion will take a back seat to other issues.

It's all a pendulum.

You're unburdened by the slaughter of innocent lives and human sacrifice? Do you know what abortion is?

Have you read the news coming out of Iraq? Do you actually believe that George Bush is a Christian?

Are you aware that in the eyes of the intellectual antichrist elite who plan to create a global dictatorship shortly that your "thoughts" are considered "the quiet wisdom of the cattle?"

As an Atheist, I feel nothing. Atheism is so incredibly unimportant and undefining.

I do work towards fulfilling all of my values every single day. That brings me more happiness than I can possibly describe.

Yes, I feel very good and live my life as a celebration of being a rational being living in harmony with the world. The human condition, especially so many thousands of years into civilization, is definitely a thing to be enjoyed beyond measure, not humbled into submission.

But, if people want to crawl as creatures before the glory of a creator that they think exists, I'll leave them to it. But, they are missing out on just how phenomenal life could be when you hold the reigns yourself and define your values rationally, instead of "trusting in god."

I agree with your idea about a 'gene'.
Interestingly, many atheists (I've done some informal polls)
also reject most myths and legends as well as religion.
Conversely, the religious have a higher probability in believing things like astrology, UFO abductions, Loch Ness monster, etc.

And yes, I celebrate my freedom from delusion nightly, as I peruse some of the questions posted on this forum.

That, my friend, is why I'm moving to Europe in the next few years. (Hopefully before they have their Rapture/Theocratic Religious Nutbag Government Overthrow and Talibanesque Return to the Stone Age Party)

PS 'Answer Man' is trying the old 'Well Stalin was an atheist so all atheist are evil tactic', which as you know, is stupid and wrong. People like that have a very selective memory when it comes to history. Like say, they forget quotes from Hitler like this:

"My feelings as a Christian points me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter. It points me to the man who once in loneliness, surrounded by a few followers, recognized these Jews for what they were and summoned men to fight against them and who, God’s truth! was greatest not as a sufferer but as a fighter. In boundless love as a Christian and as a man I read through the passage which tells us how the Lord at last rose in His might and seized the scourge to drive out of the Temple the brood of vipers and adders. How terrific was His fight for the world against the Jewish poison. To-day, after two thousand years, with deepest emotion I recognize more profoundly than ever before the fact that it was for this that He had to shed His blood upon the Cross. As a Christian I have no duty to allow my self to be cheated, but I have the duty to be a fighter for truth and justice… And if there is anything which could demonstrate that we are acting rightly it is the distress that daily grows . For as a Christian I have also a duty to my own people." –Adolf Hitler, in a speech on 12 April 1922 (Norman H. Baynes, ed. The Speeches of Adolf Hitler, April 1922-August 1939, Vol. 1 of 2, pp. 19-20, Oxford University Press, 1942)

FOR EXAMPLE. Watch them try to make Hitler into an atheist anyway.

You say that believing in God is a Cult? Come on. You believe in Science. Where is that going to get you? Though i guess you really don't care, because all atheists are sent from Hell by the Devil to try to lure us BELIEVERS to your master.
Wow, all the libs must be atheists, that would explain their sense of no morals, and the ability to give us "NORMAL" ppl a real good laugh. Thanks for that by the way, because they say that laughing is very healthy. God, with all you atheists out there, i'll be living for quite a long time.

Oh and just to let you know, this Brother and Sister stuff you are all talking about. Thats a christian thing. So what is it. Do you believe that God made Adam and Eve. Because thats how you can even call eachother that. I think that the ones that say "FELLOW ATHEIST BROTHER AND SISTERS" you secretly are hiding the fact that you are a believer, you just are too scared to get dogged by the Devils Army a.k.a atheists.

to be honest...i don't feel noble...good or vindicated as an atheist...but i do feel free of the constraints which i had always had growing up in the catholic church...i tried several other christian religions...just couldn't find any "christians"...i feel...and this is terribly odd for me...more christian now that i have given up the faith than i ever did as a card carrying member...i know the bible and from what i have read...and taken from it about jesus...he just cared about people...he didn't judge them...and tried to help them on their way...this is what i do...i don't have to shove a religion down their throat to burden them...but also don't preach about not believing in their god either...i just accept people for who they are and move on...hopefully making a better path as i go...

Feel good? No, in my case at least. Coz i'd feel better if all the theist would care to grasp what the atheist have in mind. After all, we're all just human beings here trying to make sense of it all. We're supposed to be all in this together.

The technological know-how of medicine is merely limited to modern-day wisdom. even although, there is likewise certainty that once some one is previous a definite factor then you incredibly might desire to enable nature to take its course. The religious ingredient is wishing and mumbo jumbo, stemming from the as quickly as unknown and concern propagated with the aid of the a number of religious communities. seem lower back in any respect religious heritage and you will discover that all of it comes right down to ideas administration and textile administration over super communities of persons, used and abused with the aid of their leaders and nonetheless-stated as governments.

Thank you brother. As a fellow Atheist I'm sure you share my pride in the accomplishments of Atheism in the world. Atheist leaders have been the best the world has to offer. Pol Pot, Mao and Stalin were the cream of the Atheist crop. They murdered tens of millions of their own people (after outlawing religion). This makes them the greatest murderers of all time. What a proud heritage we share. I can't wait till we get an Atheist President. Let us celebrate this honorable heritage we share, my noble atheist comrade.
