Have you had your wisdon teeth removed? If not it could be from this. As they come in they are pushed into your jaw bone and not let out to grom and causes sometimes really severe pain. My husband had this problem until his teeth came out. It could also be from grinding your teeth during your sleep if you have already had your W. teeth out.

My husband from time to time wakes up with his jaw hurting. What he does is grind his teeth in the middle of the night while he is asleep then he stops for a period of time
The other thing it could be are your back teeth (molars) they can also make your jaw sore

You must either grind your teeth at night, clench your jaws when you get stressed or angry, or your wisdom teeth may need to be removed. My mom grinds her teeth at night and she always complains of jaw pain. U may need to go buy a teeth guard to wear at night. If you keep it up, your teeth may eventually split in 2 pieces like my moms.

Pain in your jaw could be caused by any number of things - decay, broken jaw, abcess, muscle strain - you name it. I suggest going to the dentist to find out what's going on, and get it corrected.
