Most people believe that a Mormon is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. That is part true. LDS members are Mormon, but do not make up the whole group. Anyone who believes the Book of Mormon to be scripture is a Mormon. That includes many different sects. I believe the second largest group of Mormons is the Community of Christ (formerly known as the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints)

Mormon was also a prophet-historian that lived around 400AD somewhere on the American contitnents. He is the one who compiled the writings of others before him into the Book of Mormon. He then gave it to his son, Moroni, who added a few things and then buried them.

Mormon was also a place described in the Book of Mormon, where a group of people was baptized.

Mormon is a term used to describe people who are adherents, practitioners, or constituants of Mormonism, and who are identified with the Latter-Day Saint movement established around 1830. The term is most commonly used to refer to members of the Utah-based The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), which is sometimes colloquially called the Mormon Church.[1]

Essentially it is a religious organization loosely based on early American writer Mercy Otis Warren who inspired Solomon Spaulding who, along with Ethan Smith, inspired Joseph Smith to write a 'History of the Jews in Ancient America' in a biblical-sounding text devoid of any real facts or spiritualism.

Some people are fooled by that, and are called "Mormons".

Mormon is a nick name given to a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and some times to members of its splinter groups.

Usually however when some one says Mormon they are not referring to the splinter groups, but are referring to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Mormons are followers of the radical Christian John or Joeseph Smith. He supposedly had found these 4 gold plates in a vision that had the 3rd book of the bible the book of Mormon. Of course these plates could not be seen by anyone else. Then he gathers followers and moves west to Quincy, IL, where in the 1840's they were driven out, (violently something like 100 people were killed) and fled to where the government and others would not harm them. And they moved out to Salt Lake City. Where they are and still thrive in their natural habitat today. There are some critcisms of Mormon faith. 1) Racism- A famous mural on the wall of the Tabernacle in Salt Lake City has Christ on a Mayan pyramid preaching to a bunch of white people. I live in Central America and there aren't too many native white folk. 2) The book of Mormon conflicts with the bible in several areas. I don't know, personally I don't see it. But I guess it's easier for people who believe in a virgin birth to believe in white Mayans and lost golden discs.

It is a slang term used for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, a christian religion based upon revelation, and the same organization of Christ's church that existed during Christ's life on earth.
