There could be a number of causes. It could be anywhere from a sprained ankle to something pressing against her nerve. "Intense pain" isn't too descriptive, but let's see...If it's a jabby, tight pain, it's probably sprained, and take some pain medicine and it'll be fine. Look for bruises and the like. If she's suffered an injury recently, she'll probably be bruised, either visibly of internally. Without knowing specific medical details, It's difficult for me to give an accurate answer. Try some pain medication and see if that helps. If the pain continues on for another four or five days, I suggest seeing you doctor. He or she would have her medical records and would be able to give a more accurate solution.
Hope that helps, and send her my best wishes.

Has she had an injury recently? It might be sprained or even broken. Check for signs - bruised, or swelling might be visible. If there are no visible signs, the injury may be internal - a bruised tendon or ligament. She needs to go to a doctor or hospital and she needs to go before it gets any worse.

no longer difficulty-free to comprehend without heritage and examination. the main undemanding issues that reason ankle soreness contain the two sprains or fractures, yet there are all varieties of issues that would desire to do this, at the same time with gout or rheumatoid arthritis or nerve entrapment, purely a zillion issues...incredibly, if the soreness is extreme, she desires a expert examination.

First place to start. Shoes too tight?. There can be a difference between feet in people, such as size.
It's the easiest thing to start with.

It could be from the achilles tendon. Did she mis-step or fall recently? Perhaps that tendon is strained.
