I have an older Kenwood 6 CD cartridge type CD player in my car but it will not play any cd's that I burn. What is causing this and is it possible to make it play burned CD's?

Your player may just not be compatible with CD-Rs. It's only been in the last 6-7 years that stereo manufacturers have specifically tested and certified their stereos as CD-R compatible. CD-Rs are burned using a laser whereas commercial CDs are stamped, so there is a subtle difference in them that not all players can handle. Most older stereos should still be able to play them, but I have heard of (and experienced myself) older stereos that were unable to read burned CDs.

But before assuming this, you should first make sure the disc or burn is not faulty. Try to play the disc in a stereo you KNOW is CDR compatible. If it plays okay in this stereo, then it's safe to say your car changer is not CDR compatible. If it does NOT play in your good stereo, then you might want to try a different brand of CDR, a different burn program, and make sure you are burning an audio CD and not a data/MP3 format CD.

Some older CD players won't play burned CD's at all. They lack the programing.
