Church, yes. In many churches, the women wouldn't be caught without their hats.

School, no. I work in a public school, and the kids are not allowed to where any head covering unless it is for religious reasons. This is a matter of safety because contraband can be hidden under hats.

yes. Nero Wolfe considered a hat at a dining table to be 'restaurant manners', but he was very old fashioned, and that was already quite a while ago.

Unless (there is almost always an unless!) the institution in question has a policy, rule, or practice against wearing hats. Some schools, for example, ban all hats; some religions might prefer women to wear veils rather than hats. One should also consider the convenience of others, especially those sitting behind you, taking into account the size of the hat.

It is actually not only "okay," but appropriate for a girl to wear a hat to church! Ladies can wear hats inside of buildings, and the only time one may be required to remove it would be during the National Anthem (only if it is a baseball cap or men's style hat), or during a movie if you happen to be blocking the view of someone behind you.

Unless, of course, there are rules against it in particular buildings (see schools).

A lady is always free to keep on her hat, especially in church. I can tell you aren't African-American, because Sunday in church is, and has always been like a high fashion parade of ladies in their elaborate hats. There are some modern day exceptions to wearing hats: schools, some restaurants and clubs. Of course, they would normally inform you of this policy.

Good question. Yes it's proper to wear in a church because all women used to wear hats when they went to church, it was fashionable. Schools usually have their own rules and conduct so I would say it your school agrees with it then go for it. I love hats!

I'm not sure about Church, but most American schools don't let their students wear hats.

A girl may wear a hat everywhere and anywhere. Enjoy your hats.

I don't regularly attend church anymore, but when I did, I went to a traditional Catholic mass, and it was expected that women keep their hair covered (hair is a sign of vanity). Usually we wore mantillas (chapel veils--looks like a lacy scarf) draped over our hair, but some women wore hats (NOT baseball hats) and that was perfectly fine, too.

Don't wear it to your religious building, its disrespectful.
At school it shouldnt be a problem, and theres nothing wrong with it, but majority of schools DON'T allow it for some reason. Some garbage about having trouble identifying you.
