Once or twice a week is the average, unless the little guy is creating a bigger mess than usual.

depending on the type of hamster you have varies for when you have to clean... once a week is good if you do it twice in a week remember to space out the cleanings so it doens't get to close to the next week dates... so for example: clean it monday and then clean it thursday.. if you spread it out to firday or saturday you make it too close to clean it again the following monday....
use a mild soap NEVER ANYTHING with amonia in it.. clean and rinse and clean and rise at least three times... rinse rinse rinse until there is no residue left... always try to keep some of the original bedding to the side (as the hamsters smell is on it) it will be less stress on the when trying to remake it's home from the cleaning... and remember, cleaning too often makes a hamster stressful (sometimes) because you are taking away it's territories that it marked previously... (which is why I only do it once a week)
remember to CHANGE THE WATER everyday... to stop the spread of bacteria and to make sure the bottle doesn't get clogged. same with the food, watch to see what things the hamster eats the most of and what he leaves behind.,.... if he is only eating certain items everytime you place new food, then try to find food with just those items... but still try to clean out his dish at least twice a week.
As long as the cage doesn't smell REALLY bad then you can make a set schedule to clean (so the hamster gets used to it) and then see how you do.. hamsters do not mind their own smell and most of the time they stay pretty clean... just monitor your hamster and how he acts everytime you clean as well.. if you see him pacing everytime you clean then you need to change the way you clean the tank (times in a week, the water... so on) remember they stress more when you constantly change their routine
SAME GOES WITH THE QUESTION YOU ASKED BEFORE.... don't constantly pick up the hamster and handle him.. if he can't have comfort in his own space, then he will most likely stop being comfortable with you..
again... GOOD LUCK

many ppl will tell u its ok 2 wait a week b4 cleaning its cage, but when u finally get around 2 cleaning it (after the week of not cleaned), its gonna b hard 2 clean and really gross
i try 2 clean my hamsters cage at least once every... 2 or 3 days otherwise its really bad
and if ur hamster gets "wet tail" clean the cage right away otherwise its gonna b a real pain 2 have 2 clean later and will also just help the wet tail disease 2 continue existing in ur hamster's body
cleaning the cage must b done regularily bcuz if u leave it, germs will b created and ur hamster will get sick

Hamsters cages must be cleaned, scrubbed and disinfected, and all bedding discareded at least once a week.
The reason its so important is because hamsters are very delicate and prone to catching diseases and infections very easily.
I clean and scrub out my hamsters cage once a week, but every few days I do what I call a litter pick, and remove all droppings and old bits of fresh fruit and veg from the cage.
If you go to your local pet store, like pets at home, they do a fantastic antibacterial spray specifically designed to clean and kill all harmful bugs and germs in small rodents cages. But all pet stores in general will sell similar products.

When I had a hamster, I'd clean out the cage once a week with hot soapy water. If I'd given my hamster fresh fruit/veg or if there were any particularly wet areas of bedding, I'd make sure these were removed each day.

Don't wait any longer then a week. Usually once a week is fine for 1 hamster. If it smells or has alot of urine spots you might want to change it sooner. Also you should be taking out any uneaten food when you put fresh stuff to keep from decomposing.

I clean the cage thoroughly once a week, that is taking everything out, getting rid of the old bedding and disinfecting the cage with a pet safe disinfectant.
If there are damp patches, usually in one corner of the cage in my guy's case, I take that little bit out when necessary and put a handful of clean shavings in its place.

Hi - with my hammies I used to poop&scoop (with an old teaspoon) every day, including getting out as much of the wet corner as poss. I then changed their sawdust over every week. Oh and bedding too, coz tht gets proper stinky! :D HAve fun wth your little one, I lost mine about 6 months ago and have been thinking of buying another one...maybe I will, if I can keep it out of the cats way! xx

Hamster cages should be cleaned out every week (but be careful - they hate their beds being cleaned out) so clean keep some of their old bedding in their beds
