If someone is saying they have a one bedroom that is set up like a studio, it may mean that they have a studio apartment with a partitioned bedroom. That just means that it used to be four walls that contained everything but they added some "fake" walls to partition off a bedroom to give some privacy.
425 square feet generally feels much larger as a studio than it will as a one bedroom. If you don't mind giving up some privacy when you have guests, it may seem roomier to have a studio.

Check out the above website for some ideas on decorating studios. You can also see exactly what you might be getting into.
425 sq. ft. is about 21x20 or 15 x 28 just to give you an idea.

A studio apartment is an open plan area, where your lounge room and bedroom are rolled onto one. You eat and sleep at the same place, but 1 bedroom is you have a seperate room with a door so if you want to entertain then people arn't gonna see your mess an your bed you just shut the door and off you go. Studio is cheaper than a 1 bedroom, if your single and living on your own then I would suggest a studio apartment you can put your bed in one cnr and you can attach a rod and hang a curtain to seperate the bed area to the living area or you can put one of those screen things that seperate a room , my friend did this and it worked out really well. Good luck

An actual studio is where your living room and bedroom are in the same area. Basically most studios will have one of those fold out beds coming from the wall which saves space when you aren't sleeping because then it is your living room. A one bedroom has a separate sleeping area(bedroom) from the living room. Just so you know 425 sq ft is very small. That is about the size of most hotel rooms.

Studios are basically just one square room -- no separate bedroom, with a tiny living area and a very small kitchen space (usually with a tiny refrigerator). 425 is very small, but would be okay for just one person. Usually, one bedroom apartments (not studios) run from about 500-800 square feet.

A studio apartment is an apartment that consists of one room only... the entire living space is all inside one room.
A one-bedroom apartment has at least two separate spaces, sometimes 2 but the bedroom is closed off, in a room by itself. The kitchen/dining area may or may not be separate.

The main difference is the walls. The only part of a studio with walls is the bathroom. (Think of it as sleeping in the living room/dining room/ kitchen). In a one bedroom apartment the sleeping area is seperated from the main area with walls and a door.

Studio's here in San Diego are really just one room and a bathroom. Your livingroom is also your bedroom. The "kitchen" is on one of the walls and is a sink and stove. It's pretty tight but with some proper planning and decorating you can make it livable for yourself.
