Keep the dogs apart from each other. Calm the puppy and let it know that you are going to do EVERYTHING you can to make its life a better place than when it was ripped up by your other, dominant dog. You have to go into SuperMom mode now. Like an earlier answer has said, think like the poor puppy -- when you were a kid, how would you have liked your parent to haven handled such a tramatic situation? Once the puppy is calm, clean the wounds with hydrogen peroxide, or better yet iodine. If none are available, get good and deep with warm soap and water, and rinse. Do you have an antibiotic ointment you can use? If so, goop up the wounds with it and then bandage/cover the wounds. Have you checked if the spine was affected by the puppy getting whipped around by the neck? You really should get the dog to a vet, but if you are in a remote location without a car or something, do what you can to distract the puppy to think about something else -- like a fresh bone, a gentle game or a slow walk outside with you. MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THAT OTHER DOG OUT OF SIGHT WHILE THE PUPPY RECOVERS. And you've got to discipline that older dog!! Not cool. Sounds like that dog could have some aggression issues. Similar behavior with kids or other dogs? Whatever happens, best wishes and prayers for the puppy. Good luck!!

I went through something similar with a puppy several years ago. Without knowing how severe the bites are, I can only say your pup really needs to see a vet as soon as possible. Infection is a very serious threat with any bite wounds and if it was slung, there could be other injuries as well. You need to reach your parents or some other responsible adult who can take you to a vet and get this treated.

You need to take it to the vet. Gashes on his neck is pretty major, it could puncture something big or if could even get infected. you definitely need to take it to the vet. If you don't have transportation yourself call your parents, tell them it's very important that this animal receives the right care, call any family relative near by, ask a close friends parent if your parent cannot. Maybe having your own pet dog at 14 might not be the best thing for you at the moment if you cannot provide the right care for your animal.

why is the vet not an option? i don't understand people who don't take their animals to the vet. i realize that vets cost money, but that comes with owning an animal. take the dog to the vet. see if the vet can arrange payments if it gets expensive. most vets understand and will take payments. when my dog was about 6 months old, she wriggle out of my son's arms and fell onto the porch, which was cement, and broke her arm. omg, she was in so much pain and by the time all was said and done, it was over a thousand dollars for the surgery, boarding, medicine, etc. there was no way we could pay that all at once, and our vet let us make payments to pay it off. but, the moral of my story is, sometimes things happen to your pet, you have an obligation to that puppy to take it to the vet to make sure it is ok, just like you have to keep your animals vaccinated.

First, you really should take him to the vet. If money is the problem, you can probably find somewhere in your area with free emergency services. Treat it like a human wound and put pressure on it if it's still bleeding. If he'll let you, wrap his neck in gauze tightly enough so that there's a bit of pressure, but not so much that it's hurting him or restricting his breathing. Do not attempt to medicate him! Human painkillers have not been conclusively tested on animals and are not safe to use on pets. Change gauze as often as every few hours, and if it isn't bleeding, leave it unwrapped so that it has time to dry out and won't become infected. If he'll hold still, use a wet cotton ball or Q-tip to clean out his wounds. If he is shaking he head, slowly, as if he has water in his ears, he is in shock, and you will have to hand feed him. White rice and cottage cheese is best, but some dogs wont eat if they're in shock.
Again: PLEASE TAKE HIM TO A VET!! I can give you as much advice as I can and information from personal experience (our family dog was attacked by coyotes several times), but I am not a vet, and only a vet can examine your dog and properly treat him.

Okay well you have two options. Either you take your puppy to the vet or you don't take it and it dies. It's your decision. Frankly I'm sick of seeing questions like this. Don't adopt animals if you can't afford to properly care for them! What if you had been mauled, tossed around, had open wounds and were probably in shock (which can also kill a human or animal)? Would you just say, "Oh, I don;t have money for the doctor so I'll probably die a painful death". YOU NEED TO TAKE THAT PUPPY TO AN URGENT VET CLINIC OR LOCAL VET IMMEDIATELY! The Humane Society and ASPCA can help with vet bills or give you a referral.
P.S. Call a grown up (don't you have parents?) and ask them to take you and the puppy to the vet!

This is considered cruelty to animals and you shouldn't have a dog at all. it is the law that you are not to withhold vet caare for a dog or any animal for that matter.
Teh dog needs to get to the vet. You should be able to get a hold of your parents to take the pup to the vets what if it were you that needed to go to the hospital.
Get teh pup to the vets.

why can't you call your parents if they are close to come home and take the puppy to a vet? If not, what about a neighbor?
If you are still alone - call 411 and get the number of an emergency vet office in your town & call them = they will give you the best directions & help.

Dogs have legs for a reason. They need to use them. If you want a fashion accessory, get a stuffed animal. I've seen a couple of "purse puppies" whose back legs were so atrophied (no muscle) that they could hardly walk. The coat on the Pomeranian was horrible - she had NOTHING on her barrel and hindquarters from being carried and from the sides of the purse rubbing on her.

If you can not care for a pup you should not have a pup. That pup needs a vet! Why, why do people that can't care for animals insist on getting them? Call some one, get the pup to a vet...
