I would like to know if it is a law in the state of Nevada, that a person must buy a casket for their loved one in order to to be cremated ? Or is a casket necessarry at all for this type of disposal of the body? And if so, what type of casket is necessary for cremation?
Thank You,
Sincerely,
Carol McDaniel

Call your local funeral home.

The only thing required is a authorization by whoever has the right (such as next of kin) or a prior release by the deceased before they die. Pacemakers have to be removed and the cremation must be done in a licensed crematory.

I'm assuming the crematories (8 are listed in my book below) will probably require it for sanitary reasons, though this may even be restricted to a simple cardboard box.

I recently toured a funeral home as part of a pre-fire plan for my fire department and the funeral home director told us a great many details about it. In my state, Missouri, embalming is required (even if a cremation will be held) IF the body will be displayed for viewing prior to the cremation.

Contact the Nevada Board of Funeral Directors,Embalmers and Operators of Cemeteries and Crematories for more information (probably located in Carson City, the book doesn't give any contact information).

The book below is truly an interesting book about the topic.
