For those of you who answered yes you are probably correct, how ever it may be an indiction that a wheel bearing is failing

if you answered yes or no, you may be correct, it probably is safe, but it may be telling you that a wheel bearing is about to fail, always have your ABS system checked when ever the warning light comes on, thanks for your answers

the abs system is a complex system by itself, sensors controls and modules, but essentially as long as the abs light is on and the brake light is off you should be OK, but get the system checked out. the last one i looked into was nothing more than a vehicle speed sensor by the wheel.

Truck Warning Lights

Yes/No ... I would take it to Advanced they'll scan it for free ... if it's just a wheel sensor and your in a pinch on cash you can make do without out it for a while ... Almost always it's a sensor I could be wrong but when 9 out of 10 are almost always sensors chances are this is the problem.

FYI ... anyone who can take the tire off can change the ABS sensor on more vehicles some are more complicated ... take a look at a Chilton's or Haynes manual for help.

Nice if you to answer your own question.
In my experience the ABS light as often been a sensor or sensor wire failure. This makes the car no less safe than a car without ABS. Since I think ABS sucks and is possibly unsafe in its own right.... you be the judge.

when the abs light comes on says check braking system is it safe to drive to get it fix

If the abs light is on, it means that the sytem is disabled, and thusly the stopping distance will be greater. Just drive accordingly, give yourself the extra car length per every 10 mph, and you'll be fine. Of course, it's best to get it fixed asap, we all get distracted and revert to old habits!

ABS comes on for a LOT of reason, i would get it checked out asap for sure, but you would probably be ok to drive, check and make sure they a re good... ABS is a technology only, ur regualr brakes should work fine

ABS Anti Lock Breaking system. Yes...and no. You only use this when your stoping extremly hard. Putting your breaks on hard..ect. So as for driving...yes its safe....no...if you happen to need to press down on the breaks. The first chance you get, for your safty, get it checked. Even if its not a huge problem.
