Sunshine, loved your answer!

The litter box might be too small. You should get a bigger one. Also, cats don't like a dirty box. If it is too dirty, he might be peeing over the side on purpose. Also, he might not like his litter. He might know that he is supposed to use the bathroom there, but because he does not like the litter, he is not using it correctly. Maybe you should just start all over and get a new box, with a new kind of litter, and clean it every day. Good luck!

Like everybody else said, your best bet is to buy a covered litter box. That way if he "misses" and sprays a bit, you can wipe the inside out when you scoop his litter. This is a really normal thing, though. Many people I know have cats that do this, and they all just buy covered boxes to contain their cat's urine.

Sorry to tell you - not to much you can do. Cover box- will not help you- kitty will pee in the seam . Only high sides litter box can help some times- but not always. I have a four cats and till now did not found one high enough !

Some cats have a tendency to lift their rear up a bit too far when peeing. I have a cat that does that. I got the covered cat pans, no dribbles over the side.

I don't mean this answer to be sarcastic--buy a bigger litterbox.
