Breakfast is the most important meal because it gives you energy for the whole day. A muffin will most likely not give you the energy you need all day so its best to have a bowl of healthy cereal(not sugar filled ones like cocoa puffs, trix, and so on) healthy ones such as fiber one, or a whole wheat cereal, and special k.On the side have a piece of fruit such as an apple, banana or strawberries, you can even place the fruit into the cereal, this lets you have more energy and more fiber. (Rasberries are about 8 grams of fiber per cup and have very little calories)Fiber is filling so you also won't be as hungry. A good way to loose weight is to not eat after 8 or 7pm, then in the morning have a full glass of water, with a healthy breakfast, and you should loose weight, oh and yea don't forget to excercise, or change you daily routine, instead of the elevator take the stairs, park further away from where ever you are going... hope this helped!

Depends what you are aiming for. From the med student perspective, yea, its fine. After you are done sleeping, your body is waking up from a starved state. The extra energy wont hurt. However, if you are dieting, then u should have only a small lunch and dinner, along with some small snacks inbetween, whilst drinking plenty of water all day long. - I usually try to drink a good 5-7 liters - so like a gallon n a half to 2 gallons of water a day. helps the metabolism.
However - if you really wanna see some results as well as feel great - substitute the muffin for about 2 servings of fruit in the morning. Doesnt matter which one what kind, so long as your eating fruit. Apples or an apple and a banana seems to be prefered by most of my collegues.

Well, it all depends on the muffin. A commercially made muffin can be absolutely loaded with calories and fat - even a little one from a coffee shop could be 300-400, and a nice big one might be 600 or so - they put loads of hydrogenated oil in some of them, too.

If you make your own at home, from a lowfat mix or from scratch, they can be about 150 calories for a smallish one, which would be fine with cereal (or yogurt, or something else like that).

But not a muffin from a store (grocery store ones too - check the nutritional info out on those things! it is terrible!)

I really love muffins, and am constantly reading the nutritional info on them in stores and putting them back very quickly (and regretfully!)

It depends on the type of muffin. Some of them are really sugary and extremely bad for you while others might not be as bad. If you want to eat a muffin then make sure you stick to the serving size which can be 1/2 or 1/3 of a muffin depending on its size. Since you are on a diet you should really pick one or the other.

If the aim on your "diet" is to gain weight, then yes have a muffin, I'd say have two and, some kinda cereal with a good sugar content to ensure a large increase in blood sugar levels.

uh, absolutely no one can answer this question. What kind of diet are you on? There are literally thousands. If you are on Atkins, then no. If you are on a raw foods diet or zone or south beach, absolutely not. If you are just cutting daily calories, then yes perhaps, but even this depends on other factors. You need to provide more info. What kind of muffin, whats the nutr. info. What kind of cereal. How much do you weigh, what are you looking to lose....

Having both would add up to too many carbs. You can have either cereal or a muffin with fresh fruit and a glass of skim milk.

not a good idea - you rather have a bowl of cereal with milk and a fruit or one little muffin? (same in calories)
one muffin has anywhere from 300-600cal - is it worth it???
if you still want it - have organic whole grain one.

not really, unless it's wheat and refined sugar free.
whole-grains and proteins are key ingredients in a diet.

try a bowl of oatmeal with a little honey or maple syrup instead.
you'll find it fills you up more and keeps you going all morning, the muffin is likely to make you crash and snack before lunch :)
