My boyfriend of 6 years lost his boxer 3 years ago. The dog had cause lots of problems in our relationship. I do not like animals in the home, and the fact that he could never leave the dog alone for more then 12 hours made it hard to be together. Now a co worker ask him to take another boxer in his home, we talked about it, all the pro and con and we decided not to get the dog. Well he went behind my back and took the dog, and this sunday he made a promise to me, one he broke because of the dog. Is this a slap in my face, and what should I do. I spent a load of money and time to get the smell out of the home before, and now it means nothing to him.

Why don't women ever want to get dogs? A dog is mans best for a reason, because they are awesome. Telling a guy he can't have a dog is like taking away his manhood. If you don't like the smell of a dog just get air fresheners. Or you could try it out for a while with out the negative attitude and maybe you'll like the dog too.

All this over a dog .... ? If this is an argument that causes stress in your relationship, what else do you argue over? I honestly think this is very petty to be worried over. Don't let the dog on the furniture and give it frequent baths and you shouldn't have a smell problem. Dogs can be very good companions and protective.

I agree with you, as far as not having animals inside the house. I keep them outside, the whole year around. Of course, I live in the south. When it is cold outside, I turn on the heating pads that I have placed on top of their cushions/pillows. They love it. I don't blame you for insisting that the dog remain outside. The animal smell inside the house is more than I can take, myself. He probably grew up with it, and it may not bother him. But you should have a say in this matter also. He shouldn't have gone behind your back on this.

I dont think you and he are the right ppl for each other and he likes dogs and you dont . if it is causing that much of a rift in your relationship the two of you obviously dont belong together . Re-think this you are not a dog person .

just tell him you are going to leave him ( but dont actully leave him, cause it sounds like you realy like him ) and leave for a couple days ,and make it clear to him that you are leaving because of the dog and maybe he will give the dog back
if he dosnt then you take the dog back.

I understand both points of view. He has the right to have a dog and you have the right not to have one. I don't consider it a slap in your face.
