My friend works at a shelter, shes offering me a pit bull he's potty trained 21/2 very sweet and gets along great with my other tiny 7 pound dog. I live alone far away from friends and family, my boyfriend says no way! And that they're vicious dogs. But the dog is very sweet and passed all the temper test in the shelter.

Bring the dog home. The dog has passed the temperament tests, a good dog.
Your boyfriend will learn.
Let you boyfriend know that the Pit Bull was the most popular family dog back in the '20s and '30s.
The Pit is know as the "Nanny Dog" because they are so great with kids. When my daughter brought my grandson over for the first time, one month old, she sat him on the floor in his carrier and my Pit went over and just sat by him the whole he was there on the floor. It was like she was saying "I am taking care of you".
My experience with Pit Bulls was what I heard from the media, they are going to kill you. I had never been around one until my grandson brought home a APBT puppy.
I took one look at the puppy with the big head and slanted eyes and thought "What am I in for now". I was scared.
Well, guess what? She is the most lovable dog I have ever had. She loves everyone. She is great with the other two dogs I have.
You could not get a better dog.

In Australia you can take dogs from the shelter for a 30 day trial, maybe it would be wise to take him on a trial so your boyfriend can see without having to commit. Pit Bulls can be aggressive but they can be training not to be. You have to be dedicated and make sure that you learn how to train him right and take him to training classes. My boyfriend is like that, when my dog died he wouldnt let me get another one. So I just got a puppy and he is over it now, im not suggesting you do that though cause we fought heaps.

You should find out more history about the dog. Was he abused? Was he abandoned? How was he with previous owners? Why is he in a shelter? They are an aggressive breed. I would really do research on him and the breed before adoption. Then I would have him professionally trained. A trainer would help you understand their temperment.

pit bulls are only vicious if they have been abused. there is lots of information on pitt bulls temperment if you search online. basically they are very loyal so if their owner beats them they get really psychologically messed up -- and thats why the get vicious. a rescue is probably not a 100% on never being beaten but more people are realizing that they are good dogs when they are not raised to be mean.

Your boyfriend is simply misinformed. There's a lot of unwarranted bias against pitbulls because some people have raised them for dog fights. Pitbulls are naturally very friendly with people, and they're friendly with other dogs too as long as raised right (as you apparently found out when the pitbull met your other dog).

You should explain to your boyfriend that his pitbull stereotype is simply wrong, and give him a chance to meet the dog. Especially if it passed the shelter's temper test there's almost certainly nothing to worry about, because they're generally very careful. Once he meets the dog I bet he'll love it, because pitbulls are the best dogs!

It's really sad how people are made to believe that Pit Bulls are vicious by nature. It's people that made them that way, not the dogs. You should go ahead and get it if you really like it, and tell your boyfriend that he shouldn't stereotype a breed of dog just because of what bad owners have made them.

I think that if you want and can care for the pit bull then you should take him. If he had any aggressive behaviors I think it would have shown up by the age of 2 1/2 .

Pitts are still dogs & they all have different tempermants/personalities. It all depends are how you raise them. To me it seems like you found one that has been raised with care. Go for it! My husband never liked pets in the house but I brought some home, recently a 2mth old Shepard mix, she's now 10 mths old & he loves her! I have 7 dogs & 7 cats all rescued!

I say do whaat you wnat if your boyfriend is just that and doesn't have anyright telling you what you can and can't do. YOu are your own person if you were married then maybe something could be said but who's to say especcially now a days how long you and your boyfriend will be together. if your boyfriend doesn't want the dog tehn maybe it's not for you to be with him. This is a decision you have to make. it's not for anyone here to answer and it's not for your boyfriend to tell you.
Godo luck in your decission.

ur bf is stupid and just listening to hype. they are adorable sweet dogs. its the owners who need to be punished, they are the ones that turn the dogs mean. pits are not an agressive dog. i have a 7 mth old pure bred pit. she is nothing but a pussycat. shes a lap dog and loves to lick ur face. she is sweet with my chiuahuas and my cats. i worked in a shelter, its hard to find homes for pits, if shes offering, take it. kick the bf out if he dont like it. but they do eat a lot, keep that in mind.
