my dog is having pain in his back left foot. He doesn't want to put any pressure on it so holds it up as he walks. He is really good about coming to me for help when he is in pain, so I was able to check out the pads of his feet and in between his toes for thorns or cuts/scratches/bites. I also felt and moved all of the bones in his foot and leg. He was comfortable with all of the touching and there doesn't seem to be any "hot spots". There doesn't appear to be anything wrong- no swelling, no redness, no visible injury. What could be wrong?

He started showing pain when we were hanging out in the back yard. One minute he was laying on the ground and fine the next he was hurt. He didn't yelp or anything he just got up off the ground and limped over to me for help.

Could be a bee he may have stepped on. Keep an eye on him and if he's not better in a day or two, I'd take him in. ☺

You need to go to a vet. You can't expect to locate the source of the pain yourself, but a professional would be able to, and would be able to provide you with anti inflammatories for the pain, if not an xray to visualise the problem.

Swelling of a foot would usually indicate a break, but there are plenty other things besides this that would cause pain, like joint or muscle pain for instance. Go to the professionals!

So sorry to hearken to approximately your loss. i'm confident you comprehend you will by no potential have the skill to reproduction Sammy. simply by fact the previous answerer stated the area you get carry of sammy could be a great start up. yet another suggestion is to check out a distinctive breed. That way you will no longer place any undue tension on a canines to be "precisely like" Sammy. If it incredibly is a threat for you, you will possibly take a glance at Rhodesian Ridgebacks. those canines are vast, they're from the hound kinfolk and that they are fairly kinfolk oriented. They have been bread to guard the abode from lions. in case you prefer to make sure a ridgeback in action, hire "a a good distance off place" the only caveat i might propose is to no longer get a rhodesian in the journey that your babies are small and into throwing sticks. Rodesians will chase you around the backyard, yet they are going to by no potential pass after a stick simply by fact it in simple terms lies there. 2nd, there is not any reason you could no longer prepare it your self. you could hire DVDs from the library. The canines Whisperer direction could be impressive. returned, sorry to your loss. We lost our believed (Max)imum velocity approximately 4 years in the past and that i nevertheless miss his vast head resting on the counter! cez

Same thing happens to my dog sometimes.Give it a day or so. Let him rest it. He will probably lick it. Dogs have healing enzymes in their saliva. He may have stepped on a bee or a very small splinter. He will likely fix his own problem.Taking a dog to the vet could stress him out unless you really think it could be serious. You know your dog better than anyone.

If there is no visible sign, perhaps an Xray would give an answer.

Also, do you have a dog chiropracter near by?
They usually have very sensitive hands and can feel things that us mere mortals would not notice.

Take him to your local veterinarian and explain the ordeal to them. This could be a number of things ranging from something stuck in the pad(s) to joint or tissue damage. They may event want to take an x-ray.

If he is licking his pad, usually its means he has been bitten by an ant or something like that. He could have just stood on a sharp object and its just like us having a stone bruise.

There could be a problem in his joints. Have you checked his shoulder area. Something may have slipped. If it doesn't go away then you should take him to the vet.

That happened to my Schauzer one time, we never did figure out what was wrong. I massaged his back and hip and the next day she was fine and it never happened again.
