Basically you'll burn the same # of calories walking as you would running the same distance. It just takes longer.
If you prefer walking, then walk.

Sprinting is more effective than walking or jogging, and it's quicker than both, but much harder, which is why it is more effective. That will build more muscle than both, and more muscle will burn more calories. Look at the difference between a sprinters legs and a marathon runners. Like comparing twigs to tree trunks.
Although... it all depends on what shape you're already in. If you haven't worked out in awhile, you're gonna wanna start with a walk, then try to move up to a fast walk. Jogging itself is rough on the joints because of the constant impact. It may be no big deal when your in you 20's, but when you start getting in your 30's and up is when you really start to feel what impact is. I know, because I used to run all the time long distances in my early 20's, now in my 30's I can only do so much of it before I have to "heal" up. So now I prefer to sprint. Do that and your legs will feel like taffy when you're done. And because you're not doing it for a half an hour or more(like jogging), and only a few minutes, it's not so rough on your joints. Also, keep accurate times . You'll be amazed how much better you will get at it. I would skip jogging altogether, but that's just me.

Jogging will burn more calories in less time. If you absolutely hate running and can afford to walk for a longer time, then the benefits are usually the same.
Fast walking has less risk of injury also. Just make sure you set a certain distance to walk.
Say you run 3 miles and walk 3 miles. The results are usually the same, just walking takes more time. Also, running will work your cardiovascular system better.

They say that 1 hour of brisk walking is equivalent to about half an hour of jogging.
Jogging will tend to burn more calories than walking, however jogging puts a tremendous amount of pressure on your joints and in the long run can lead to joint damage.
If you deceide to jog make sure you use proper jogging shoes to cushion the pressure on your joints. You should try to jog on a softer surface as this will help as well. You can jog on a treadmill. It has a spring that will cushion much of the stress from jogging.
In addittion, eat healthy and properly, drink enough water, get enough rest, relaxation and sleep. Playing a sport is a good idea because you will burn calories, get fit and have fun all at the same time.

Hi Celine. Great question.
First, fast walking (like in Olympic race-walking) requires more energy than running/jogging (that is why the body 'naturally' converts walking to running as you increase your speed - the running becomes more energy efficient than very rapid walking).
Second, walking is much less stressful on joints (especially knees, hips and backs) than running. Jogging may be the most stressful of all (versus high speed running) because it is constant bounce, bounce, bounce).
Based on these two points, I would suggest that walking may be better than 'jogging'.
You migh also consider an alternating walk/run (NOT jogging). On a typical high school track, for example, you might walk the straight aways and sprint the curves.
If walking is your choice, Walk. It is excellent exercise.
Best wishes and good luck.

You can sprint for like 30 seconds or less, that will make your heart rate go up and that will make your metabolism higher and your body will lose weight faster. You could just fast walk that would give better results that just walking. A mix does the most, but just do as much as you can!

It depends on whether you are in good shape or not.
If you are in really good shape it will be more effective for you to run.
If your 41 and you smoked a pack a day your whole life you should probably walk fast.
