Religions are generally not hate-filled, but individuals can be. Unfortunately, it only takes one violent and hate-filled individual who claims to be religious to give the world the impression that everyone who follows that religion feels the same way.
A common stereotype is that all Islams are violent, destructive people, which is certainly not the case. I'm not Islam, but I know a lot about the culture and have heard numerous first-hand accounts from friends who have lived as missionaries in Islam countries for years. Most are peaceful and hospitable, but there are a few "bad nuts".

Lately it seems that atheism is a pretty hateful religion, but there really aren't enough of them, really, to worry much about. Anyhow, there are many of them who are good, happy, well-adjusted, courteous people...unfortunately, they tend to sit quietly and let their more extreme brothers and sisters make them seem like the baby-eating satan-worshippers they are so often portrayed as being.
Then, there are Muslims...Allah hu Akbar, or whatever it is they cry before they chop off your head...and, you know, it really doesn't matter to the chopper if the head is Christian, or Jewish, or Buddhist, or Taoist, or Wiccan, or Pagan, or Atheist...as a matter of fact, in many cases, it's just as likely to be a Muslim head, but, hey, Allah doesn't like infidels.
I'm sure you will get folks who claim that Christianity is a violent and hate filled relligion...and, based on some badly misunderstood history, and some dang-fool "fundamentalists" who can't seem to mind their own businesss, Christianity does seem to have alot of hate in it.
However, the Leader of the "religion" is supposed to be Jesus. Anyone not following Jesus' teachings has no claim on Him, no matter what they call themselves. I can call myself Brittany Spears all day long (and I can sing, too!)...but I'm still just a chubby li'l old Granny from Alabama.....

I think it's the people who are hate-filled, not so much the religion...people who hate just use religion as their excuse. Hence why some religious people are very nice and tolerate.

Christianity, followed by Islam. The religions themselves aren't violent, but the followers choose to be.
