Now, this is a weird question, so let me explain. Some people say that when you go to heaven, you get a new body and all memories are erased. Otherwise, you would fret for the people who go to hell. If you don't have your memories, though, wouldn't you be someone different? Sorry if this seems confusing.

Ester, how would we know each other with no memories of this life? I don't understand.

This is not true. The Bible says that we shall be known as we are known. In other words, no matter what you heavenly body looks like, people will know it's you. And how so? Because they knew you in the PAST.

Further, the Bible did not say we would not weep...only that God would wipe away all tears. That is, we may indeed cry, but He will wipe away our tears.

One of the things I am coming to understand is that God is a good God, and if we think that he would make a person burn forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever...because they cheated on a spelling test, say...or because of some other minor issue, then we really need to question our understanding of mercy and judgment.

God put in our hearts the ability to discern right from wrong. We both know that the death penalty is not the right punishment for someone who steals a candy bar. And we also recognize that eternal hell is not the right punishment either.

I think that sinners are cast into hell...and then are simply destroyed. In other words, I don't believe they are in pain forever, but are simply (and perhaps in some cases, almost instantaneously) destroyed.

Now people like Hitler...who knows?

I believe that it is almost like a humane form of ending their existence, if that makes sense. Yes, they have missed eternal life, but at the same time, they are "vaporized" (for lack of a better term) and suffer no more, etc.

That is sad indeed, but I'd much rather know that my grand-father was simply gone...than that he was burning forever.

Make sense?

Once you are in Heaven, with God and company, then the things on earth no longer will even matter to you. It would be like recalling a penny that you overlooked 20 yrs ago. You don't remember it anymore because it just doesn't matter to the here and now.
There is to be no sorrow in Heaven - therefore we will no longer remember people we knew on earth, nor remember earth because it was merely a skip to Heaven - which is the true final destination of all who choose God. Familiar relations will no longer matter, memories will no longer matter. Being with God will make all life and memories be as a vapor. Here & gone! Prioritys change and you just won't care. You just really won't care. Don't fret so much!

Not confusing at all. The bible says when we are in heaven we shall not "remember the former things", meaning life on this earth. I can understand exactly what you are asking. The only way I can answer it is to say, those who will be in heaven will be the same person, perfected. It will be an entirely new life, an eternal one. That is not to say we won't know each other, we will. We will just not have the memories of this life.

Agree. This concept is a little weird because If you are "other" person in Heaven, why you want to go there? Why not Hell? Is the same or not?

Heaven and Hell are places right here on Earth.

You're right. You would no longer be you, and therefore would you still be a good person in consciousness (good enough for heaven)? Excellent question. And, if this is the case - why not just let everyone into heaven and wipe them, too. That way they'd be different people as well. The universe is mental. When we lose our individuality and identity (that is comprised of our life experiences) then we are no longer us.

Evil passes away, but good and love do not. You are eternally you. When you wake from a dream, you are you, and so when you wake from earth, you are you. You will change and earthly memories will no longer serve you, because you will have parted with the old wine.

First, that's a great question. I'm responding because I don't know the answer, and would like to see others' responses.
Because I always wondered about spouses.

Kind of sad, I just keep the faith that God knows what s/he is doing. If we don't remember, will it matter since we wouldn't know?

I think you would be more who you were designed to be. Bc you lose your sin nature with your old body, I think you wouldn't have those old memories, since they are often distorted by our own perceptions of things, which may be incorrect. I think that when our sin nature is removed, that our memories will be as well and they won't bother us.

I really think that you just love God so much that you realize that the people that did not make it to Heaven was because they did not love God so you feel that it is justified that they not be in Heaven so it doesn't bother you. I think that in order to go to Heaven, there has to be NOTHING more important than God.

Well I guess it is so thet you can only look forward but, that doesn't make sense cause like if all memories are erased how would you know what heaven is..... and plus we don't know if heaven is real...... but, keep hope and faith alive.
