If thats all that happened then im pretty sure he is okay. I have had two separate occasions like this so im pretty sure he is. It took my puppy about a little over a week to stop limping and get back the courage to walk on his hurt leg again. Thats usually why they limp if its a minor accident. So i wouldnt worry but if its taking too long for them to recover then i would go to the vet otherwise i wouldnt. My puppy also yelped a little if he put too much pressure on his hurt leg when he wasnt ready so they only know when they are ready to put full pressure on the leg and not limp anymore. Dont worry :)

Check with vet. Sounds like a large breed growth disorder as he's the right ageand size for it. There are a few different ones, some more serious than others. Vet may Xray and can also have an idea which disease it is, many times just by palpating legs to see which bones it is affecting. Shifting lameness could be Panosteitis but may be one of the others as they do mimic each other to some degree. There are different treatments for each; the more serious ones may require surgery and lesser ones, like Panosteitis which shifts from one leg to another, usually start in front (tho not always) and can be treated with specific anti inflammatories from vet and rest during an outbreak. Take your dog in for exam so you know what is going on and can start specific treatment as that is very important with bone growth and specific diseases.

It's possible he may have a sprain - which is fine. If he's walking on the leg, it's probably not broken. The thing you want to watch for is joint pain. Just take his leg and squeeze the joints very gently. If he yelps when you do this....you need to take him to a vet asap. Check the foot and leg to make sure they bend okay, just gently work the joints, leg, hip, foot. Then check his toes and toenails to make sure they appear normal. Squeeze each of the pads gently on the foot. If he yelps for any of this.....take him to a vet. If not, he's probably okay. Just watch him and don't let him jump up and down for a week or so. If he's still limping in 5-7 days, he probably needs to see the doc.

It's most likely a sprain. If he is still walking on it, it's probably not broken - although there may be hairline fractures or perhaps an inflammed joint. I'm sorry about your financial situation but a responsible pet owner should think these things through before taking an animal in. You really do NEED to get your puppy to a vet because this could be a serious problem. Most vets are willing to do a payment plan too - ask.

Can you call the vet and ask if it's something serious?
Look at the leg. Feel along the bones and note where he yelps, if he does. Make sure there's nothing in his paw. It should come to pass soon. If it doesn't, your money will be tighter - you have no choice but to take your beloved puppy to the vet. That's your obligation for loving this puppy.
Good luck!

You may have to take him to the vet. If he suffered a fracture or pulled a ligament then he will need medical attention. Hopefully he just bruised it, though. If it keeps looking worse (still limping, swelling, etc) take him to a vet. You want his leg taken care of before permanent damage sets in.
Since you're low on money ask about payment plans or if you can do something cheaper and temporary until you can afford the better solution.

You really should take him to the vet and make payments if you have too. The exam and xray will probably be about $100. But if a puppy hurts his joint and his leg grows incorrectly, then surgery to fix will cost much much more in the future. Not to mention the pain of having a messed up leg and the guilt you will have to live with. Not fun.

Take him to a "chinese vet" i.e. a chinese fast food resturant. And you will also get some money. So your dog will not be limping for too long again, and you will help solve your money problems. Just go around to the back and speak to the chef. Make sure to note of the name of the resturant and let me know so I will not eat there.
Just kidding sweedie, I know you probably love your doggy. Monitor him. If he is not getting better or he is in too much pain then you should take him to the vet. Other wise if it is not too bad he should be fine.

Try to touch his right paw/leg. If he yelps or tries to get away from you, you know something is seriously wrong. Feel his leg for anything that is strange, a lump that wasn't there before, a soft spot, etc. You would know if something is wrong with your pet better than any vet can. If you do feel something strange, you should take him to a vet as if you don't it will keep getting worse and worse.

If he's limping, it's NOT normal. Is he walking on it? Is he in pain? Take him to the vet. You wouldn't let one of your family members walk around with a broken leg, would you? Dogs can't speak for themselves, let the vet do it for him.
