I think it is too young but a lot of his friends have one, and so does his 12 year old sister.

Absolutely not. My son is 11 and some of his friends have one. he knows that until he has a job to pay for one then he doesnt NEED one. That is the operative word, NEED. No one needs a cell phone, period. If he goes to a friends he can use the home phone there to let me know when he is coming home. If he is in sports, which he is, I know what time to get him and if its earlier then the coaches will stay since they ended earlier than stated. I am tired of kids thinking they are entitled to things just because. A 10 year old does not need a cell phone, nor does a 12 year old in my opinion. And isnt the saying about doing what your friends do, "Would you jump off a bridge if your friend did?"

Well I'm about his age and I want a cell-phone!!! If you think it's a good idea there is a nice program called disney mobile.
~You can monitor where he is using your computer or cell phone
~You can monitor his calls and block numbers so certain calls don't go through
~You can give him "allowance". "Allowance" is the best feature about disney mobile, It allows you to add minutes whenever you like. Like say your son got an a A+, A, C+ and a B this week in a subject, you can reward him by adding minutes on to his phone. Or say he did all his chores:
Mow the Lawn-$15.00
Clean his Room-$15.00
Laundry-$5.00
Feed the Dog-$5.00,
Instead of giving him money you can reward him with minutes.
And you should set some ground rules about when he can use his cell phone. Like, No cell phone during dinner, while you're doing homework and at school, unless there's an emergency. Also if he also wants say a skate board or an I POD make him decide. He may think you're mean but hey he needs to make a decision!

well i agree that he is too young i think 12 is a good age but i am a verizon wireless agent and i see parents buy them all the time for kids as young as 5. So i think whatever you choose is best. some kids are more responsible than others at that age. you may could go with one that just calls 4 numbers (like the migo phone from verizon) and then 911 or something really simple. you want them to be able to call you and someone if there is a problem , but you also want to make sure that he dont run up a big bill or let his friends run a big bill up. good luck and if you have any questions you can email me stacynicole06@hotmail.com

i dont think its time to have a cell when your 10 i got my at 12 years old. Your son at 10 years old should not be out all the time cause he is only 10. You need a cell to be in touch with your parents not just to talk to friends thats what the house phone is for!!

Do not do it. That is bad to give a 10 year old a cell phone. His sister is 12. That is a two year difference and he probably needs to mature more.

I have two nine year old sons, and both have a pre-paid cell phone. I didn't want them to get one, but dad said yes. Boy, does he wish he had said no! One of the boys lost his and the other leaves his everywhere. I finally took the remaining cell and hid it. I think you should consider how mature your child is, how they value their things and are they responsible ?? Ultimately, it's your decision. If you do decide to get him one, I'd get a cheap pre-paid one so you don't lose a ton of money and have an enormous phone bill. Also, close supervision is probably a good thing with a ten yr old and a phone of any kind. Best of luck!

my son is 11yrs. old and he wants a cell phone too. i looked into those cell phones made for the younger kids like the firefly or the migo. they are very expensive and you can only receive calls on them which is no good if your child needs you. so i thought i really didnt think my son was mature enough for a cell phone-he is always losing things and forgets things everywhere!! so i run the risk of buying a cell phone and him losing it the next day. but on the other hand, some of his friends are very responsible and have cell phones.... its a really tough call. i finally said no to my son til he's 12. and im praying he is mature enough to be responsible with a cell phone. (god help me!!! lol)

well I would think that even a 12 year old shouldn't have a cell phone but in modern times alot of ppl feel that their children should have such conveniences. But I would think that if his sister got one so should he or at least he should get one at the same age his sister did. So if she just got hers he can wait till he is 12. Also make sure he understands how big of a responsibility it is and how to use it wisely. Best of luck :D

I think he should have one if his friends and his 12 year old sister has one. But talk with him about the responsibility about having a cell phone and how to take care of it. Also get an easy to use cell phone. make sure it's not to complicated for his first cell.
