My personal opinion is that you should wait until you are at least 16 (which is the legal age you can get pierced with parent's permission anyway) to get anything pierced. First of all, as previously mentioned, it's not legal yet, and secondly, do a lot more research. Make sure you know the pros and cons, how it can adversely affect your oral/dental health. Give yourself a few years to decide whether or not you REALLY want it or it is is just something you want to do because it is popular. Don't be in a rush to put holes in your body that you may or may not want in a year or two!

If you really think you deserve to get one, then you should try and prove it, or earn it atleast. Behave, help out as much as possible at home, pick up some extra chores, save up the money to pay for it, and research all the bad effects of it too. Show your dad that you're responsible enough to make a deciscion for your own body by taking it seriously and considering the plus and minus.
Why a tongue peircing though? It makes you talk funny and half the time chips teeth. Anyways, that's the only way I think you can convince him. Oh, and do not throw a tantrum or act like a spoiled brat. Accept his reasons and speak to him like an adult.

Don't pierce yourself. The tongue is a sensitive and vulnerable spot, and that could end badly. Let me tell you, getting a safety pin cut out of your body is no fun. I've held the hand of many a Naive Teenage Friend through such procedures. Not how you want to spend a Saturday night.
At 13, quite honestly, I'd be surprised if you could find a place to pierce you, even if your dad agreed to take you. Unless you're going to a back alley poker who re-uses needles, but I assume you don't want Hepititis.
Wait for a couple years and get it done right.

Hi =]
I'm 14 and I want my tongue pierced too (I already have 3 on each ear , nose & belly button) but I think I'm too young for it. To be honest people in our age range don't suit it. And even if your dad said yes , not many places would pierce a 13 year old's tongue!

Really there is no reason to do it, it is just a cosmetic piercing just like piercing your ears or nose. It is just for looks/decoration. Honestly if you can come up with a reason you need it pierced to tell your dad I would be surprised.

I can only think of one good reason to have a tongue piercing...and it isn't one I'd suggest telling your dad or even anything you should be doing yet at 13.

i absolutely love piercings, but i wasn't allowed to have ANY til i was 16, and i've found that i changed my mind about a lot of things, so i'd give it some more thought if i were you...try to think about how you'll feel when you're older or an adult and if its really worth the expense and the hassle

If you can't think of a reason to get it, why get it?
If you're getting it "to be cool" or "to be different" your head probably isn't in the right place.
You could tell him that you want it because it makes you feel more like you, but if you don't believe it, he'll see through you.
I know you're gonna hate this, but most piercing places won't pierce your tongue until youre 16, and thats only if you have parental consent.
Please, please PLEASE don't have a friend pierce it or pierce it yourself. You could cause serious damage to your tongue.

your dad is right...at 13 you are way too young to make such a decision...and at this age, you would need your parent's permission to get your ears pierced, let alone any other part of your body

There are no reasons you can give your dad, there are no reasons for piercing except personal choice.
