Red Hot Texas Chili
Preparation time: 10 min Cooking time: 1 hrs 26 min
Yield: 5 (1-cup) servings
2 tablespoons LAND O LAKES® Butter
1 1/2 pounds beef round steak, cut into 3/4-inch pieces
1 large (1 cup) onion, chopped
1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh garlic
1 cup water
1 (29-ounce) can tomato puree
1 (4-ounce) can chopped jalapeño chile peppers, undrained
2 to 3 teaspoons chili powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 1/2 cups hot cooked rice or beans
1/2 cup LAND O LAKES® Sour Cream
1 (8-ounce) can crushed pineapple
Melt butter in 6-quart saucepan until sizzling; add half of beef pieces. Cook, stirring occasionally, over medium-high heat until browned (4 to 5 minutes). Remove meat with slotted spoon. Set aside. Repeat with remaining meat.
Return all meat to saucepan; add onion and garlic. Continue cooking until lightly browned (2 to 3 minutes). Add water, tomato puree, chiles, chili powder, cumin, salt and pepper. Continue cooking until mixture comes to a boil (5 to 6 minutes).
Reduce heat to low. Cover; cook, stirring occasionally, until meat is tender and flavors are blended (1 1/4 to 1 1/2 hours).
To serve, spoon 1/2 cup rice into each bowl; top with chili, sour cream and pineapple.
Recipe Tip
Regular mild green chiles can be substituted for jalapeño chiles. Since this chile is mild, increase chili powder, if desired.

Place meat in crockpot, then add 2 cans diced tomatos, 2 cans kidney beans - drained, 2 pkgs of dry chili mix, 1 can beer & 1 stick butter. Stir together & heat over low for 8 hours......Serve with homemade cornbread & shredded cheese.......Yummy!!

Easy Vegetarian Chili: In a crock pot, heat on low all day - 1 can light kidney beans, 1 can dark kidney beans, 1 can of corn, 1 jar of Prego Organic Garden spaghetti sauce. Season with salt, pepper, chili powder and Tabasco to taste.
Regular meaty chili: Brown 1 lb. hamburger and drain. Put browned meat in crock pot. In the same pan, cook one coarsely chopped yellow onion, one coarsely chopped green pepper and garlic to taste. Toss in the crock pot.
Add light and dark kidney beans (1 can each), corn if you like it, 1 can of tomato puree, salt and pepper to taste, chili powder to taste (or taco seasoning or fajita seasoning - whatever you like).
WIth both recipes - cook on low all day. When you open the door at the end of the day you'll be greeted with such a great smell!
Don't forget the cornbread!!!
