My OLD luggage set needs to be replaced but I was wondering what features I should look for when buying new stuff. What type is best? What gadget could you "not live without"? What Denier count is best? And what should I expect to pay? Thanks!

personally i would choose the lightest suitcase i could find (canvas/denier is good instead of a hard case that doesnt expand) with zippers instead of those clasps (they tend to pop open). rollers are a must but find ones that dont stick out too far as they'll be at risk of breaking off. i think rotating wheels arent as sturdy as simple round rollers. those pull out handles are handy but they do make the suitcases a bit heavy (mine has a strap that pull out that you use to pull it along, like a dog on a leash!).

i've tried ecolac, american tourister, delsy and kenneth coloe luggages and my alltime favorite (in terms of lightness, sturdiness and good variety of sizes plus good looks) is samsonite! good luck and happy traveling!!!

I use the duffel bag type because they can expand or contract to fit the amount of clothing I am taking for my trip. good wheels and a handle are a must. I pay as little as possible and after about 5 years buy another of the same. The soft sided luggage is great for cruises as it fits under the bed for storage very well. You can get a good duffel for under $50.

I also found that its best not buy one of those big bags that has a part for "hangup" clothes, i.e. suits because you end up with too much in the bag. It will be too heavy for the airlines. So I got a separate bag for hangups. a good hangup can be had for about $80.
