Going to a gun show this weekend. Rules state "ALL FIREARMS MUST HAVE THEIR ACTIONS TIED OPEN." I want to bring my revolver to shop for a holster for it. What does this mean, to tie the action open?

1. Tie wrap around the trigger to the trigger guard pulling the trigger all the way back.

or

2. Tie wrap threw one boring in the cylinder down to the trigger guard leaving the cylinder open at all times so it can be seen. If your after a holster this is not a good idea.

The front door people will open the action for you if you dont do it yourself. I wouldnt worrry to much about it.

There are two ways to do it"
1 - Zip tie through one chamber of the cylinder, but that will get in the way of trying holsters.

2- A zip tie behind the trigger and between the face of the hammer and the frame. This will better let you try holsters for fit.

Most gunshows provide these ties at the table where you check your gun at entry. Just be sure to tell the guard that you are shopping for a holster and ask him to put the tie on through the trigger guard, and in front of the hammer.

you can't tie open the action on a revolver.
you CAN tie open the cylinder. what they are talking about is on the pistol, with the slide back, the tie goes down through the ejection port and mag well. tell them at the door you're looking for a holster, they'll help.

here is another way to "safe" a revolver-- just take the cylinder out of the frame--when you find a holster leave out the cylinder pin but hold it in your hand and be careful not to let the cylinder fall out of the frame, might hit the floor and be damaged

Just run a zip tie through one of the chambers. This will keep it from being fired. They'll have someone at the door checking guns, and they'll do it for you.

They mean to secure them so they cant be fired.... in the case of the revolver zip tying the hammer back should be sufficient, although if theyre going to be real cranky about it they may want you to prevent the barrel from turning also.
