It hurts, but the pain is over before you even have a chance to react. That's assuming that the person doing the piercing knows what they're doing.
Also, make sure that wherever you go, it's clean. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask. The staff shouldn't have a problem answering even the silliest questions. If they do, RUN.

No one will be able to tell you how u will feel or what you will experience while you are getting pierced.Everybody has thier own story or opinion about piercings or getting pierced. Most people say the tounge piercing itself doesnt hurt ,that the week or swelling and pain after is what sucks! The aftercare is tedious, you have to clean it EVERYTIME your finished eating or smoking for one month. Also kissing and other oral things are discouraged for 3 weeks. You cannot change the jewelry or remove it for one month (as mouth piercings heal quicker than most and will start to close if the jewelry isnt in place in the first month) Also for the first week eating dairy products ie- cheese eggs milk ice cream is discouraged as it keeps you swollen. Take motrin or advil to help reduce swelling.Research the piercing online.A good site is www.safepiercing.org

Honestly, I had mine pierced twice, and imo, it doesn't hurt when the needle is going through. the only thing is that it swells for the first couple of days, so you won't be able to eat solid foods for a bit, or you will risk bitting down on the stud and chipping a tooth..lol. I do think that the tongue is great for a first piercing though. Just make sure you have all the necessary preventative care, such as Listerine to kill the bacteria. Don't worry, your piercer will let you know how to care for it.
Have FUNNNNN!!!! =)

The actual piercing isn't too bad, about a 4 1/2. Pretty gross though. They numb your tongue but you can feel the sensation of the needle going through the layers of your tongue. The worst pain is the next four or five days when it swells and it goes up to about a 8ish. Eating is difficult and every time you knock it with food it hurts more.

I got my tongue peirced about 4 years ago,and still have it.When i got it done, it hurt a bit,but not an extreme amount.I felt fine shortly after getting it done, was ust a bit weird. You have to be extremely careful with it at first.I obviously wasn't used to it,and minutes after getting it peirced I had pulled on it and it stretched. So now my barbell is a 10,instead of the typical 12-14.and do NOT get metal balls! My dentist told me that it is fine to have as long as i do not use metal balls.I was also told to get a shorter bar when my time of healing is up.Its not nearly as bad as a lot of people make it out to be.Ive never had a problem getting a job with it and Im a childcare worker.I say if you want it, get it, dont let others tell you horror stories or how bad its gonna mess you up.If you dont like it you can always take it out and let it close. To answer your question,MY experience of pain was about a 3.everyone is different though.Good luck.:)

I had mine done and when the actual needle pierced through it hurt about a 3-4, pretty easy that part. It's the swelling afterwards and trying to eat for the first few days that are a pain. The swelling during the day the piercing took place is about a 5-6 pain factor, the next day your looking at a 3...ear piercing is worse to me that this was.

Personally for me the piercing didn't hurt it was a few hours later it started to hurt and last for a day or so. Nothing severe though just some mild soreness. I took aleve and it worked well.
I would say a 2
And as far as a life long scar. Don't worry about that either after time you can take it out for a while. I have had mine for about 8 years now and I can leave it out for weeks at a time.

I have not had any piercings, however from enjoy, I can say that the eyebrow hurts worse than the nostril. Whenever any person is out of line, simply achieve up and seize the jewellery putting from the eyebrow and they're going to obey any command given to them. Consider that whilst you positioned jewellery to your face, you're doing some thing that enables any person else to have close to absolute bodily vigour over you.

Never had it done, and I only have one hole in each ear as for piercings, but a WARNING: Don't do something you may regret later. Sure, know it seems awesome and the coolest thing ever, but how about in a few years? When you're looking for a job, and are at an interview, will you appreciate the tongue ring?
