Science is not perfect. I agree with this. It is not the be all and end all of the world. However my argument is that Science is the most functional and applicable "doctrine" available today. It provides the most hope for the human race moving forward and allows us to predict outcomes in realistic time frames. Alot of theist rag on science saying its not perfect and they are right. However my question again. Science isn't perfect but isn't it the best we got?

Absolutely. Keep in mind, no scientist claims science has all the answers. They simply claim the answers given by science are probable because they are based on the observable laws of nature.

When evidence is presented that proves a current scientific notion false, scientists learn from this and seek a more probable answer.

When evidence is presented that proves a religious notion false, it is usually denied without reason as if to say, "I don't like it so I don't believe it!". This isn't a very rational approach.

I think of creationists constantly saying evolution isn't supported by fossil records because we don't have any examples of transitionary fossils. So I kindly point out a few perfect examples (e.g.Tiktaalik roseae, Ambulocetus natans, Pithecanthropus erectus) and they say,

"No, those aren't transitionary!"

I ask "What is a transitionary fossil then?"

"It's every fossil you'll NEVER, EVER find!" (evil laughter ensues)

Comparing the philosophies of science and religion is like trying to compare a wok and a toaster.
Sure they both cook things, but they are two completely different apparatuses.

Faith and logic are like sodium and water. (My science friends will understand this.)

Faith dictates we think first with our hearts and then with our heads. Science does not. It thinks with the head first, and the heart is rarely involved.

Science demands evidence through trial and error. Faith demands nothing. So you see there is a conflict from the beginning.

Science required proof. Faith is all the proof a believer needs.

You have Science which is Logic and Faith which is abstract. This is why Science and religion are always at each other’s throats.

Both at times, can be highly ignorant through their own arrogances.

If you read anything on scientific history, you will discover that today for every one theory is another against it. You should go to a scientific caucus, or debate. Just like religion they too can’t even agree amongst themselves.

I believe in both science and religion. There is a happy medium, because both have parts that are B.S and others that are completely valid.

Using science as a religion however will not happen for millennia because even with the best physics we have now we are still pretty much unable to do anything too mystical with it.

Even though some Quantum theories boarder on the esoteric.
I look at science the same way I look at religion. Because both have the same strengths and weaknesses, and both try to explain the same questions. But they are so different in their methods that they are simply alternatives to each other.

I suppose we can say that science is pretty darned good. There's earth science, social science, and even political science to refer to (fill in your science of choice). Science allows us to have knowledge by experiment and experience. Does it explain the longing for intimacy and relationship adequately? I don't think so. Does it explain purpose and a meaning to our individual lives? Hmmm.... debatable. Does it prove whether or not God exists? Does it cause people to argue, fight, and compete with each others views? (ever seen a group of scholars debate?).

Why is it that the same science methodologies in Iran don't change the people's core values? Can we just blame it on religious dogma? If science was the "end-all" for intelligence and reason why then are we unable to look at its truths objectively regardless of our cultural backgrounds?

You may not like this but I have to throw it out there since I am a theist. I think science compliments faith and it is us who makes an improper distinction between science and God. If God is a God of truth then we can learn many aspects of God through science. Whatever mechanism we choose to understand the world, the universe, and our own existence with shows us attributes of God. This is where science and faith can coexist. No matter how you package truth it is truth and is nothing to be afraid of. What we should be concerned about is our preconceived notions, which we might give too much weight upon. Therefore, causing more harm than good when we don't receive the answer we wish to hear.

Homo sapiens are'nt perfect, no. Is our science a perfection? How could the knowledge of something imperfect be completely perfect by any means? What do humans consider perfect? With God as our Creator, He is perfect. I bet there's a few perfect things created by Him also. But at the moment it's pretty clear that its not us. Humans don't understand perfection. It's what they yearn for with science and technology, to have a perfect understanding. But they'll never find perfection in themselves, nor create it. The unbelievers foolishly believe, and will continue to believe, that the rules they create are right, the systems they establish are just, and the ideas they determine as facts are unquestionably correct. The answer to your question is to believe in Jesus Christ, the Lamb, the Son of God, who died for you and your sins, who showed the world there is life after the death, and to read the scriptures. It's the best you will ever get. Science is not a doctrine. The structure of science is based on facts, common sense facts, truths, facts that humans can understand. But humans, being imperfect, imagine ideas mixed with speculation, which is sometimes turned into fact. This is the flaw of science. Science should also be aware of the fact that history often times repeats itself. It IS the year 2007 AD, with technology increasing at an extremely fast pace due to science, with the inevitable to come in the future. I dread the day that unbelievers and science, or works of unbelievers and science, create something or someone they deem perfect.

The science of men is the best we have now to help ourselves in this God forsaken material world. Science demands the truth, and because of the rigorous effort to get at the truth using truth itself as a guiding principle, tremendous leaps forward have been made in creating a better world for mankind. In the world of spirituality, every sect and religion in the world thinks they have a monopoly on the truth when in fact the total truth is undiscovered country, and will be for many generations to come.

Your first premise that science is a delusion corrupted the rest of your statement. Taking a class like Logic 101 would be a good thing.

Science has the goal of beeing the best possible guess at the truth. Science admits it cannot assert truth. And it is willing to change based on new info. That makes it the best. It's like the T1000 of terminators.

Well science is great at inventing things like starbucks coffee and lasers, even learning about nature and the cosmos too.

However, science doesnt help with ethics, morality, or spiritual matters; the things that truly matter in life.

Science is not a delusion. It's a system of knowledge of the physical or material world gained through observation and experimentation.
