I just moved into a house with a window air conditioner. I have never used one and it has a option of exhaust fan on or off. What should I have it set on?

If you close off the vent that the fan blows outside air through, then the cooled air in your room will recirculate inside the room. That will make it cool-down faster and will save on your electric bills because you are not paying to cool-down hot air from outside.

It will exhaust air from your room, you need another air supply (window) open to allow air in for it to work right. You use it instead of the air conditioner setting so you do not pay for cooled air to exit. If it only works when the unit is on do not use the option.

Hi

The exhaust fan will take the hot air out of the room....If it is off it will just circulate the air that is in the room.

I suggest you start off by having the exhaust fan on and turning it off once the room has cooled as it will then recycle the cool air and lower the electricity costs....
