Many like the Edge Evolution have a program to return the ECM to stock for services. It erases the code for the altered state the chip produces. Not traceable and perfectly legal. Some manufacturers have a big issue with chips, so I would stick to one that can be deprogrammed.

Yes they will void your warranty. I am a Dodge diesel tech that has spent many hours training on Cummins diagnostics's. There are way to see if you have had a chip/programmer plugged into the truck. Programs leave trace inside the ECM which is hard to fin unless you know what you are looking for, so be careful.

are you talking about a piggyback chip? if so, you can just remove it when you take it in for service. just be sure to drive it for at least 15 minutes without the chip so the computer will get used to the new (stock) setting and make adjustments. i had a chip with multiple settings (not diesel tho) and i made one bone stock. that way i just switched back to the stock setting when i took it in for service. they won't reprogram your computer or even look for a chip if you haven't modified the vehicle however i still think it is best to remove it as a whole unless you really know the people at the shop.

Yes, but would you rather go bankrupt paying for gas, or have a warranty that isn't worth crap. Those Cummins diesel engines are great engines so I'd get the chip.

ABSOLUTELY they can! i have seen it. they will actually restrict dealers from doing ANY engine and transmission repairs under warranty. take out the chip or tuner before you go to the dealer for any services. all it takes is one person there to let chrysler corp know that you have it and BAM you are done. no warranty. and it really sucks cuz most of the diesel engines have a 100K warranty.

yes. I work for a dodge dealership and chrysler will decline any warranty claims if they find out it had an aftermarket chip
(trust me, they will find out if it has one).
