If you bought a standard ticket through a travel agent, then you're very unlikely to get your money back. Even if you have travel insurance, that will only cover cancellation charges in the case of severe ill health of yourself, travelling companions or close family or business partner.
You need to read the terms and conditions attached to your ticket. In most cases, discounted tickets have a cancellation charge of 100%, which means you'll lose all your money. If you're lucky, you may not forfeit everything, but this is a more unusual circumstance. Amending the outgoing flight will count as a cancellation in most cases, leading to the same charges. You will need to contact your travel agent, just to make sure.
Sorry to be the voice of doom and gloom, but most airline tickets, especially if you aren't paying a full published fare, have very tight restrictions attached to them.

Depends on the type of ticket you bought. If it's a normal discounted ticket, you can get a credit if you cancel it before the flight. However they will charge you between $50-100, the balance they will hold for you to use within a year time span. Look at the small print, some of those tickets are use or lose, you can't get any credit for them. That is not the normal case but they are out there.
Of course you can pay extra to change the flight dates. The airline will charge you a fee and whatever the extra cost of the new ticket is if any.

Unless it was a non refundable ticket you should definitely be able to get a small amount back but you must go and give written notice to the travel agent of the change in plan. If you change/cancel within the last 3 days you will lose everything. Go and claim immediately. They usually offer to change it for another date if the ticket allows it. Good luck.

It really depends on what airline you are flying with, and what type of ticket. If you have a changeable ticket expect to pay about £50-£150 to change it, but some airlines will even change it for free!
But you will normally have a lot more chance of changing the ticket than cancelling all together.
Best give your travel agent a call, or if you booked it on-line call their customer services.

it depends on the ticket you purchased. some can be rebooked or even rerouted without any charges. but most discounted tickets now are restricted such that once issued, there's cost for any change in flight schedule or route. if you plan to return the ticket and refund amount, just the same, it depends on your ticket. most discounted economy tickets are either non-refundable or refundable with fees. better check with your travel agent or call airline directly.

No - not without paying massive alteration fees. Unless you or a very close relative are dangerously ill AND you have insurance, you cannot get any money back.

If you booked it yourself direct to the airline (Excluding some low fare airlines), you should get your money back. I NEVER go on low fare airlines as you might not get your money back.
You might not get your money back through a travel agent.

did they cahnge your flights with out you approving of the change? If so then you can get them to waive the change fee, if its just cause you want to then you have to pay money to change usually 100 change fee plus fare difference
