You have to sit in a fairy ring naked and hold the stone between your hands while holding your hands up towards the moon, helps if the moon is full! Any spell of devotion should work!

A moonstone, also known as a pathstone, is activated and bound to the Caern by the expenditure of gnosis by the Ritemaster, if the Sept has one, or anyone with sufficient Rituals knowledge otherwise. Generally, some other sacrifice or offering must be made to the Caern Totem, such as tangible goods services, or bans (releasing large numbers of mice into the bawn just after sunset, for an Owl totem, or providing intentional guard for a family of foxes in the bawn for a Fox totem, or a ban/pledge to speak all rituals in a certain manner for Chimera totems... etc).
Further, some homage of course must be made to Luna. Moonshards, or moon crystals, talens which contain bound Lunes, broken to free the bound Lunes, can be a very poignant and meaningful offering -- though may be perceived as an insult to the person who created the talens in the first place.
