What do so many people have against harry potter? I personally love the books. And it's not just that they don't like the books, that's not bad. But some people (espically religous) literally have something against them......serious answers only please!

I've done a bit of research on this and here's what I've found.

1) The general prinicple against witches, or anything that would make witches appear cool or tempt children to play at them. Christians dont' like this, after all, all witches are evil and they are supposed to kill them. The bible says so.

2) Harry Potter does not have much respect for authority, and consistantly breaks the rules and not only gets away with it but is rewarded in the story for it time and again. This is not good morals, according to Christians.

3) I read a book that actually said the biggest problem is that Harry never once calls on Jesus Christ Almighty for help. He relies soley on his own judgment, which is fallible, and yet he comes out okay without turning to a higher power. Harry is self-reliant. He thinks for himself and has faith in himself.

Personally I like the moral messages in Harry Potter - that it's necessary sometimes to break the rules, that it's our choices that make us who we are, how much friendship and courage and caring count, that we must sometimes stand up to our friends and even our heros. That what is legal or accepted isn't always what's right. That our family are those who care about us, not necessarily just those with whom we share blood.

Nothing Harry Potter book fan. Not so much of the movies.
Why some folks don't like it well it mentions witch craft which is a sin to them also I don't think they have truly read the books too.
There are just people in the world that are more into there religion the others are.

CS Lewis's *The Lion, the witch, and the cloth cabinet* even have magic, yet they're an allegory for Biblical activities. it incredibly is been argued that Lord of the jewellery has non secular meanings, yet Tolkien, (a non secular Catholic) denied it. anyhow, however, I agree. young babies could be impressionable, yet i do no longer fairly shop on with how they are able to get from Harry Potter books to Satanism. If there's a God, i'm confident she has extra effective issues to do than condemn human beings for analyzing books. and of direction, it incredibly is in common terms a vocal minority of Christians who declare this - or so i'm hoping.

I have nothing against Harry Potter. But some people like Christian's may because it says in the bible that you should not practice magic or be a sorcerer and sorceress. Therefore if you are watching it then you are allowing you brain to be corrupted with Magic Practices.

Myself nothing, and I'm considered a Jesus freak.

I think what the fanatics mind is the popularity, as if the whole phenomenon somehow distracts from God. Silly buggers.

The whole Potter Canon is as morally sound as THE LORD OF THE RINGS in my humble opinion.

Let me look at my bookshelf.

Philip Pullman's Dark Materials trilogy on one side, and the Lord of the Rings on the other.

Seriously, I suspect that it is not the magic. Lots of books have magic in them, who is complaining about Lord of the Rings?

I think it is Harry's frequent rejection of the magical authorities, that he is usually right and the authorities wrong and that he thinks for himself. These are an anathema to organized religion.

it's the whole witchcraft and magic thing. religious people don't like that.

i personally, do not like the books that much, but i have to give it to JK Rowling for writing such a good plot. It takes a lot of skill to write such in-depth characters and everything does fit together quite nicely. i only don't like it because that particular kind of book does not suit my interests.

a lot of religious people dislike the Harry Potter series because it promotes sorcery, which is a Biblical sin

The witchcraft, which many want people to believe isn't real. The witchcraft written about in those books is real. It's not an innocent little fairytale like some children's books.

It makes a mockery of family, using Harry's stepfamily as a force for evil, while at the same time presenting magic as a legitimate solution to life's problems.
