I am experiencing loss of appetite which has resulted in noticable weight loss, feelings of hopelessness and helplessness, extreme sadness that affects my day to day activities, loss of motivation in life and work, etc.

These symptoms have been occuring for over a month now, maybe two and I can't seem to pull myself out of it. Friends haven't been able to help, going out hasn't, family helps my mood temporarily but I can't find a permanent solution. I've tried running, dancing, reading, etc. but nothing seems to help.

There are stressors in my life that are beyong my control and I am having a hard time dealing with them. I think I need help and I know don't know where to turn.

This has also resulted in physical symptoms such as severe nausea. I'm not sure that this is something I can help myself with anymore. Is it possible?

I have been depressed for a year a half now mainly due to circumstances beyond my control (ie my parents are divorced, my dad remarried and his wife is very hatefull to me, my ex-boyfriend cheated on me, we had to sell my childhood home of 17 years) When my depression first started I lost 24 pounds and also felt very sick physically at times. I've been on lexapro (an anti depressant) for the past two months. It seemed to work at first but unfortunately I spent all weekend in the ER because of suicidal thoughts. Apparently my dose was higher than it should be.

So I suggest going to your doctor and see if medication is right for you. MAKE SURE they start you on a 10g for the first few months and don't expect it to help right away. Also get your primary to suggest a good therapist or psychologist. I'm going soon to a new psychologist.

I am still looking for an answer to depression myself. Some things that do help me is spending time with my dog and family and friends. Also avoid isolating yourself and try and have something every week you can look forward to. GET HELP FOR YOUR LACK OF SLEEP!!! When I don't sleep good I'm very depressed the next day. So try and fix that. I don't suggest sleeping pills because they made me feel very weird. But tylenol PM works well. Or stretching or taking a hot shower/bath right before bed.

I wish you well in your quest for happiness. I completely understand how you feel and know your not alone

Please go see a doctor. You should go to your regular doctor first, get a physical and a referral to maybe a therapist or a counselor. I'm dealing with the same thing too but I let it go on for almost a year before I got help and I have some health problems that willnever go away now because of it. PLEASE go see a professional - its really the ONLY way to get help. Good luck:)

When was your last physical? Go to your primary care or OB/GYN and get a complete check up. While you are there ask for a referral to a good psychiatrist.
