This seems to be a simple question. However, you will receive different answers depending on who you ask.
The most common recommendation It is commonly recommended that people drink between 8 and 10 glasses of water per day. This is a good starting point. The question is, how big is that glass?

The answer is that it depends. As with most things, the more you weigh, the more water you need.

In order to lose weight, every day you should consume between 0.5 and 0.64 ounces of water per pound of lean body weight.

Therefore, if you are going to drink 0.64 ounces of water per pound of lean body mass, use the following formula:

Lean Body Mass x 0.64 = Optimal Water Intake in Ounces

As you can see, a person that has 200 pounds of lean body mass should drink 128 ounces, or 1 gallon, of water. This equals 8 16 ounce glasses of water.

There is a table that shows how much water you should drink based on your lean body weight.

The general answer is 8 glasses but if you want specific to your body size the formula is....your weight in pounds X 0.55 the answer will be the amount in ounces you need to drink everyday. Keep in mind 8 oz is one glass.

It depends on your body composition as well as the medications you are taking. Read up about it. Don't just take the advice of armchair-waterholics. Over a year and a half ago, I nearly died when my salt level went dangerously low from a combination of water, exercise and drinking water. Now I limit my water intake by replacing it with vitamin enriched products. Just watch out for the amount of sugar that is in them. And, another caution: don't drink the diet versions they are full of FDA-dignified poisons like aspartame and splenda.

Most say it's 8, 8 ounce glasses per day. I've heard another unique trick. Take your body weight, divide it in half, and that's the amount of ounces of water you should drink per day. So, if you weigh, say, 120 pds, then you should have 60 ounces per day.

8 8 0z glasses per day is the daily minimal requirement, that would be 64 ounces.
Also, if you exercise you would want to take that into consideration, or if you work outside in the heat for prolonged periods of time, you would obviously need more, that would vary for each individual circumstance, I believe.

Okay, this is the deal.

Take your weight, divide it by the number "2" and the number you get will be the number of ounces you should drink in a day.

I've heard this from many people and have read it online on many fitness sites.
