Hi everydaycatholic,
I am catholic myself and spend at least 1 week during the year on a silent individual retreat. It is the greatest way to be tuned into the Holy Spirit. He best guides us on spiritual questions. One of the Holy Spirit's 7 gifts is the gift of wisdom. In the meantime, I strongly recommend "The Purpose-Driven Life" by Rick Warren and the "Cost of Discipleship" by Dietrich Bonhoeffer. I have read both. The most inspiring is the book by Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who literally gave his life to do his duty as a Christian and speak up against Hitler.
The Jesuits offer retreats throughout the country on St. Ignatius Loyola's Spritual Exercises. One of these Spiritual Exercises is on Discernment. Discernment is not decision making, but rather, understanding through prayer on which path we should take in life. I have included a link to 3 Jesuit Center websites. I have attended all 3 Centers. I also recommend the book, The Art of Discernment" in the Ignatius Impulse series.
God bless
Torin:)

The goal of THIS Christian's life is to grow in my relationship with God and fulfill his purpose for me here on earth; to be a good example of Christ's love to the world by following his commandments; and to be a good wife/mother ... although hopefully the last will happen by default if I accomplish the first two.

Now the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith.

The goal of every Christian should be to glorify God in all that we do. God gives each of us gifts to use for that purpose and to build other people up. If we live our lives serving God under our own strength and for our glory, we have missed the point.

To know God better every day through personal time with Him in the Word, including knowing one's spiritual gifts and determining the ministry God has called each one of us to.
As followers of Jesus, we are to be unconditionally available to God for the work of His kingdom. God is self-giving love. Therefore the primary work of the Christian is to pour himself or herself out for others, using his or her spiritual gifts. This requires daily dying to self and setting aside worldly goals and pursuits.
Developing and maintaining a good prayer life, maintaining good fellowship with other believers, and to love God with all our hearts and minds and souls and strength, and our neighbors as He loves us.

To live a life pleasing to God. To stand in Gods truth always. My goal is to live a life, so pleasing to God that when I get to heaven he will say:" well done my good and faithful servant."

To win as many souls to eternal salvation, so one may enter heaven. But not only secure their eternal life, but to also help them grown in their physical life here on earth... so that they too may be able to go out and win souls for Christ.

To love your fellow man. To keep Gods commandments, to speak words that edify and not tear down, to let your light so shine. To study his word and live it. To have a relationship with him. To love the lord with all your heart, and to wait for his return.
