It could be an infection or high blood pressure, but is most likely just a dry nose (which can sometimes be brought on by allergies). Breath steam and put some triple antibiotic ointment on the inside of each nostril. If this doesn't work after a day or two, see a doctor.

Are you diabetic? Diabetes runs in my family, and for a long time I would get nose bleeds every time I had too many cookies or candies.
How is your blood pressure? Sometimes high blood pressure can cause the small capillaries in your nose to rupture, causing a nose bleed.
Or maybe those capillaries have thinner than usual walls, with the same results.
In any case, you'll want to be extra careful with your nose and try not to eat too much sugar until you know what's going on.
Good luck!

It is a sign of high blood pressure and definitely a sign you should go to the GP. It can be a sign that you are heading for a stroke and luckily you are getting nosebleeds instead.
The alcohol connection is because heavy drinkers are at risk of high blood pressure. Also, blood vessels in the neck of alcoholics can just burst as they are weakened and damaged
by their high blood pressure. These literally blow out, and the result looks like the person has had their throat cut. I saw a photo of a room in which this had happened: the poor woman died trying to get to the phone. A particularly nasty way to go, but short as you bleed to death in minutes.

The most common causes of nosebleeds are injury, the climate, colds and allergies. Nosebleeds are also common in pregnancy and for those people on prescribed blood thinning drugs.
Occasionally, frequent or excessive nosebleeds may indicate other problems such as high blood pressure, bleeding disorders such as von Willebrand's and haemophilia and in rare cases nasal cancer.
You should really see your Dr as it could be a sign of something serious or something simple but you could end up anaemic through blood loss.
