Here's the thing, I asked 2 other girls out in the past, and were denied by both, and never really in a flat out manner, but I'm over that.
There's this girl I had a crush on for about a year now, and fortunately, through that time, I became friends with her, even being invited to her Sweet 16, and even getting an honorable mention. I make her laugh easily, and we talk a lot about random stuff.
I actually kept it all together and decided to ask her out, and she gave me this flirty look and said maybe, which most likely means no.
Now that she said maybe, I don't know what to do with myself. I don't want to be persistent and ask her again, or ask what has she decided, or else it would seem annoying. Because to me persistence = annoyance to the other person.
Or maybe she's actually flirting with me, but if she truly would like me, why wouldn't she just say yes in the first place?

If she is shy, she might be embarrassed to answer yes straight up. Also, is she worried about being seen with you? (as in, would her friends approve of you?) Some girls are funny like that, they might REALLY like you but be afraid what other people are going to say. Also perhaps she isn't sure she DOES want to be with you, so maybe she just wants genuinly wants some time to think about it. If I were you and she doesn't say anything to you after a few days, I would jokingly and casually say to her next time you see her, 'so did you give it much thought? How about that date?' and just go from there with it! Goodluck! A 'maybe' is good, because if she wasn't interested in you at all, she would have just said no... so atleast she's thinking about it. So this can only be good news! All the best!

Well I agree it does depend...are you more like the guy who is always just a friend? most likely because you are a good guy :) If that is the case she may not want to hurt your feelings... but it could mean she needs more time to think about it...if she is playing games she isn't worth the time...good look hun. sorry it is a hard one to answer.

She could be trying to play hard to get.
Try flirting with other girls. If she likes you, then she will get jealous and come after you. If she doesn't, well, talking to other girls will help you forget her.

Well, maybe could be that she is thinking about it. she is thinking of saying 'yes' and thinking of saying 'no'. dont forget the fact that when she says 'maybe', it also means that she has accepted the offer and will get back to you. but dont give up.........have fun!!!

She's probably trying to get you to "chase" her, back off a little bit, pay less attention to her, and before you know it she'll come to you and say "how about that date?"

yea if they say "maybe" or "ill thin about it" or "i, uh, already have a boyfriend in, uh, paki-georgi-flori-new yo- jer-vermon-mai-alas-cali-hawi-eng-ariz-" or "i just dont feel ready roght now." or "i dont want to ruin the friendship" or "maybe when we're older" then they are saying no, but they dont want to hurt ur feelings

not necessarily. it may just mean that she is having mixed feeling for you and can't decide what she wants to do with you, yet.

well it depends.... sometimes it CAN mean no but mostly it means she needs to think about it and decide if dating you would be a wise choice for her or not.

take her out somewhere and then just bring it up in the conversation... just ask her if she want's to be with you...if you don't ask she'll probably think that you don't...
