Travellers are mostly Irish and they know a lot about fiddles. The only decent music to come out of Ireland is U2.If you don't believe me,ask yourself how many times an Irish song has won eurovision. The only other good thing to come out of Ireland is the Holyhead ferry. Nuff said.

Hi, I have a fantastic CD from a small collection called A Celtic Treasury, the Spirit of |Ireland. Haven't listened to it for ages, you reminded me it is mostly music. In fact I think it is all music. A mix of Irish music. Some of it is so hauntingly beautiful it seems to surround you.
The rest of the Celtic Treasury set consists of Celtic Moods, the Spirit of Scotland and finally The Music of Ireland, this last one is also an incredible CD. You mention the fiddles, have you ever heard the Irish Pipes, wow, when played properly you have never heard anything like them.
I sing Irish and English folk, unaccompanied. The Irish is my favourite and of course everyone knows the choruses. The players in the folk clubs join in and we sometimes have the most incredible jam sessions. Give it a try, go to your local folk club, sometimes it is a little strange but when they get a good session going you would not believe the range of talent and playing skills just around the corner. Also try to find the CD's mentioned above. Enjoy.

Well...some Irish songs are very well performed by Scottish bands (such as Silly Wizard who sings of Sweet Dublin Bay :) so if you only look for Irish bands it's possible to miss some really good examples of the genre.
Whatever I recommend is only my personal taste; but I'll be glad if there is something to share. So. Alain Stivell; Clannad; Secret Garden; the Pogues; the Chieftans; the Dubliners; Ronan Hardiman; Flook; the Prodigals; check this for the start...

If it is instrumental music you want then it ain't songs, is it?
Go to any Irish pub or Shamrock club in London and you will hear more lilting Irish ballads played there, enough to make grown men weep whilst they think of the old country (Ireland)
This should help get you started.......

There are hundreds. Check out Altan. Also go to CDBaby.com for a whole catagory. "Wake the Bard" is a Celtic band with a lot of instrumentals - their CD is on there.
