The alternative to slavery in the Bible was death. Hardly a comparison to a sinner.

Gays are not perverted or anything - that's to the troll who is called TexasJew. The evil is the homophobia that is shown by bigots like the ones within this thread, some gay christians know God is love unlike the bigots. some christians can and do say that it's ok and do not see the problem and then wonder why people reject christians and religion. the fundies and other homophobes are wrong
Edit: God created Adam and Steve but there's a typo in the bible which misses out the 'st' of Steve

It's very similar because at the time of the civil war, both sides twisted the bible and tried to use its passages to justify their "side" of the conflict - both those for slavery and against it used the bible for their own political ends. In all honesty, people were much more interested in their own finances & careers than in what the bible taught.
That's how it is today too - some people on the one side use it to justify prejudices against homosexuals and/or political convictions, and some people on the other side use it to justify their own sexual perversions. It is easy to misquote, and to misapply and to twist the bible out of context.
The common thread between the two situations is this: people USE the bible to try to influence other people instead of humbling themselves before the bible to learn the true message it contains on either issue.
The real question is this: would you submit to what God has written in the bible even if you didn't already agree with it, even if God asked you to change your sexual behavior, even if God asked you to love someone you consider unloveable?
That is the real test for anyone, homosexual and fundie alike!

I wonder how old U are??? If U are old enough to find a job and have, then U have sold Urself into Slavery!!! The Irish, Chinese, are two well known Ethnicities that survived Slavery & came out just great!!! The Black Leaders of today should Thank the People who Enslaved their forefathers including the "Tribal Chief" who sold them to "Slavers" for a pound of Sugar or Glass Beads!!! If this didn't take place, they would have never had the chance to come to a land of such Tremendous opportunity Or Freedom!!! Just look @ Africa, where we still see Starvation, Sickness, Rapes & Murders when Fellow Blacks have pressed their own people into Slavery!!! Our Black Leaders have a problem running their mouthes over here when they should be back in Africa in a Massive Outcry against what their own people are Still Doing!!! Some people just have No Capacity for Prosperity & are never happy, just Screaming to keep themselves in Office as if they really cared about the Little man, Hog Wash!!! Ur attempt to bring Scripture into it has been done by many before U & it doesn't wash!!! Freedom has Always been a State of Mind, as Paul in Prison says;"I have learned to be happy no matter what state I'm in" (paraphrased). U are the only one who makes U un-happy or a Slave!!! Today in this country 80 % of the people are slaves to a job they can't stand, because they have Enslaved themselves in Debt!!! John

humorous yet in simple terms the different day i replaced into analyzing approximately how some criminal experts standard have been going after craigslist to get it to quit advertising prostitution. no longer church homes, no, states. did no longer hear with regard to the Mormon church struggling with that throughout any respect. the place have been the Mormons for the Roman Catholic's intercourse scandals? Nowhere? no longer an "important" sin? yet 2 adult males or 2 women human beings getting married in another community they by no potential pass to gadgets them off? Edit: Ooooh bollucks Ignoramus...abstinence in common terms or intercourse in common terms interior the limits of a monogamous, heterosexual marriage is the form of twisted disease prevention suggestion you could in common terms get from a Christian. confident it works in spite of the incontrovertible fact that it incredibly is in certainty an impractical answer precise up there with prohibition as a potential to quit alcohol intake.

The Bible never justified the kind of slavery that was for instance in the US before the Civil War or that goes on in some Muslim countries today as we speak(Sudan). Slavery in the Bible was never based upon ones skin color or religion. If a person got into deep financial trouble and could not pay his bills he sold himself into slavery to pay off his debt. In Israel all slaves were released at the end a seven year period or Sabbath Year in obedience to teh law of God given thru Moses. (Exodus 21:2 If thou buy an Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve: and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing.) This slavery was nothing like what white men did to negroes in the US and elsewhere . Anyone who did or does use the Bible for justification of racial slavery was sadly mistaken and was in fact going against God's righteousness. Modern slavery of Christians by Muslims in Sudan is also sin. Racial and religious slavery is to be condemned because it is sin. Likewise Homosexuality is a sin and must be condemned by those calling themselves Christians. As a believer in Christ we hate the sin but love the sinner . We love Homosexuals just as we do Muslims . Christ died for them too. A Homosexual must repent or turn from his sin in order to be saved . Those calling themselves Christians and still commiting sodomy and other immoral acts of the flesh, like fornication, adultery, beastiality, or any form of sex outside of man/woman marriage are only fooling themselves. Beware lovers of porn who abuse yourselves, this applies to you as well.
Galatians 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
I being a conservative/fundementalist as you say, did not say this. God said it ... Repent and come to Christ all homosexuals. God loves you...

You can use the Bible to justify anything, or its contradictory. That's the "beauty part" of the Bible.
"Christians" will condemn homosexuality (e.g.) on the strength of Leviticus. When you point out that Leviticus also enjoins the shunning of menstruating women, the sacrifice of oxen to IHVH, slavery, and oh! ever so many other wonderful activities, they inform you that the Good News of Jesus means we are no longer bound to Mosaic Law. Then what was that about homosexuals? In response you get a (much more vague) pull-quote from Romans (in the NT) in which Paul appears to condemn homosexuality, as part of his general programme of condemning sex altogether. Very good - but what's this here? Paul also says that women are not allowed to speak in Church, and should submit themselves utterly to their husbands. "That's based on a mistranslation." "Times have changed since then." (I've actually heard that one from Christians!) "That was Paul, not Jesus." Or the old standby "Those verses are being taken out of context!" Which brings us back to the question of why we should pay particular heed to the anti-homo injunction, about which the same remarks could be made. And so on.

I don't understand this obsession with people being against the gay community. There is a VERY small part in the bible that speaks out against it.
Some things in the bible are condoned, some are ignored. Others are pooh-poohed as being archaic and "not applicable anymore". For example:
It was fine to have more than one wife then. Now? My gosh, it's a "horrible" thing now!
Incest wasn't that big of a deal in the bible. Adam & Eve's children supposedly had to sleep with each other in order to populate the earth. Lot slept with his daughters.. yes, he was drunk but he still slept with his daughters and there wasn't much backlash from that.
You shouldn't sleep with women on their period or cut your hair beyond a certain length. Do we really follow these rules today? No.
Slavery was fine in the bible. But come on, would we accept that nowadays? No.
We could use common sense and compassion in this world instead of relying on some archaic book to rule our lives.
Jesus (whether you believe in him or not) supposedly hung out with tax collectors and prostitutes. He would have hung out with gay people, wrong or not. I'm willing to bet on it.

The Bible has been used innapropriately and out of context for generations (just think about the crusades) and unfortunately as long as self-centered, self-motivated people exist it will continue to be innapropriately used to push selfish corrupt agendas under the pretense of God's ordained righteousness.
As a Christian, it saddens me to see this happen. My apologies for anyone representing the faith that has not been a reflection of who Christ is.
