You are doing the right thing by staying there but looking for employment elsewhere and going back to school. My concern is how do you know the office manager has your best interest at heart? The fact that she is putting you off indicates this may not be the case. Here are a couple of sites that tell you how to ask for a raise. Good luck to you.

Blah, blah, blah. She probably does more than you think but just don't see because you're busy doing your own work, at least you should be.

If your bills are overwhelming, SCALE BACK. If you do not need that $5 latte (or other expensive food/drink) three days a week, stop. Buy cheaper groceries at a cheaper store, go generic on the items you buy, use less electricity at home, find a cheaper cell phone plan, get rid of ANYTHING that is not a necessity.

Trust me, sometimes it's more about cutting down, prioritizing, and budgeting than it is about getting a little more on your paycheck.

EDIT:

Allow me to also note that while I live within my means, money is still tight since I am moving into a new place and it's already taken a lot out of me. Thus instead of expecting my company to be responsible for how much I earn and how I handle my financial affairs, I approach the situtation like a responsible adult.

To earn a little more money and regain what I've lost, I'm going to be searching for a part-time job on the weekends. It's going to suck, but it's the best way to temporarily make some extra money.

You really ought to try to learn to do the same rather than sticking your nose where it doesn't belong.

And it is not the company's problem that you cannot pay your bills. ( In ref to the intern remark) You where hired for a certain amount of money for performing a certain amount of work you agreed to that. A manager deals with allot more day to day activities and problems that you do not see, I know, and financial problems do put a stress on your life but keep focused, look at the positive, she does want to help you get a raise, sometimes these things take time, and there are operating budgets to consider. Go back to school but do not quit your job, if nursing is what in your heart you want to do then go for it, if it is not what you really want to do then discover what that is. sometimes we have bad days, and we all feel like quiting but things will and do get better.

I agree that worring about what your boss does and how much she makes has nothing to do with your problems. Stop thinking about it and worry about yourself.

If you're really underpaid ask for a raise, but look for another better paying job as well. If money is really a big problem think about waitressing one or two nights a week.

As already posted, live within your means. Big car payments, too much shopping at high retail stores, too much dining out are all probably as big of a problem as your lack of salary. (I buy brand name clothes off-season on clearance.)

The biggest thing, from reading your post, I think you need to learn is to PAY YOUR BILLS FIRST, then what is left over is your spending money. If you can't use a credit card responsibly, then put them away and go on a cash basis.

It may be hard, but being financially responsible is one of the most important things you can do. It can have a big positive impatct on your life. Good Luck!!

Listen, learn to like your job. Learn to love your job. As hard as it may seem, the only way you can do better is by maybe competing with the rest of the people who work there, and set a goal to become the best at what you do. Tell yourself that you enjoy that challenge every day. Maybe eventually it will change to where you actually do look forward to coming to work every day. And you will see how things will change in your favor.
But school is ALMOST ALWAYS (99% of the time) a better option.

Keep your head up, do your best, don't hate or even dislike anyone for stupid little things that irretate you, and things will change, I promise.

i understand where you are coming from. My daughter had a hard time being on her own and trying to go to school and work what she could as well.

I suggest this: try getting a weekend sitting job either with the elderly or young children so their parents can go out.

if you could spare about 20 dollars, go to local yard sales and buy stuff cheap and try listing them on ebay. (although, i dont really need the extra money, I just do it for the fun of it, but i started this way and now i have my paypal account built up enough that i go to auctions and buy stuff in bulk and resell)

try you local convient store or dollar store for weekend work, alot of their older employees like to have weekends off.

I know that this will make you working nearly 7 days a week but sometimes we have to do what we have to do in the beginning until we get established.

Good luck to you

I'll I have to say is that sooner or later something good is gonna go your way and try to stick with your job as long as possible unless you can find a more high paying job. A suggestion would be to possibly start a home based buisness or take out a loan and invest in stock or mutual funds. Good luck, Hope it works out.

It sounds like your office manager sucks! Just believe that she is jealous of you because you are a young women with a lot going for you ( especially if you go to nursing school!). And if you want a raise, go to the source yourself, talk to your boss instead of mediating through that useless woman of an office manager!

Move-on to a new job. Like Walmart, Target, Kmart. Go to school and get education to be a bank teller or so. Can you do part-time work on your days off? Like Taco Time, McDonalds, Wendys? Keep the illegal immirgrants jobless!
