Jesus *probably* existed but wasn't the son of anyone but Joseph and Mary. He didn't rise from the dead. There's no evidence for any god. But come to your own conclusions. Good luck.

What do I think?
I think you are confusing what is spiritual with what is physical.
I think that looking for physical evidence for a God Who is spiritual won't work, of course.
People are atheists because they make that very mistake. They don't see any physical evidence, so, of course, they conclude that God doesn't exist. They read of other religions that have similar legends in them, and they conclude that all religions are mythology.
I think that it is quite illogical to suppose that life "just happened". Even if the universe were around forever, as some are now saying, that does not explain life. Even if you accept the theory of evolution just as it stands, that STILL doesn't explain life, let alone intelligent life. It is not logical to believe that men and apes both evolved from "a common ancestor" when there is not a whiff of evidence for that ancestor...a physical something or other...but even if we prove that the missing link we have not yet found is, maybe, Bigfoot or something, that STILL does not explain life. Sooner or later, you must go back to a time when life did not exist....
and then, you come to a point where science has no explanations.
It's OK, you are going through a time of doubt and testing right now. I think all Christians go through it...I know I did. I know that, from great doubts, can arise even greater faith. I know that faith that cannot be tested, cannot be trusted. You are young, I'm assuming...perhaps you are going through this desert of doubt for a reason.
That is something I don't want to think about......

Honestly, everybody comes to a choice when it comes to the bible. But consider this for a moment. Here was a man, who in three short years, managed to conquer the world of time, without ever drawing a sword. Now, commonly, we glorify the conquerors who basically used force. (Alexander, Napoleon, etc..) But nobody wants to acknowledge a man who conquered by the mere use of words. Why? It happened during the "Great Roman Empire period." And of course there are even archaeological discoveries of locations and so forth. (Although Science will tell you that Archeology doesn't really prove too much when it comes to the Bible.) And the really glaring thing about Christ is you simply cannot find the body. 1) He ascended into heaven after the forty days of his resurrection. And 2) Christ's body would be glorified more than Elvis, thus forgetting about God. (IF you understand what I'm getting at. The same could be said about Moses, too.) And to say the Bible and Jesus is a "myth" is absurd in the highest order.

I don't think Jesus himself is a myth... I just think many of the stories given as Fact are myths built up around Jesus. In the same way we have stories about Robin Hood or King Arthur... there's evidence that these stories are about real people, but they've been embellished to the point that we no longer can tell what is true and what is legend. I believe all religious writings are man's perception only... this doesn't make them holy.
I suggest doing more research and a lot of "soul searching" (I hate that phrase... it sounds so corny) and don't rely on what others tell you is Real or isn't. You should make that decision yourself.

As far as I can see, the only confusion is that you are reluctant to lose the beliefs that you have had for all your life. If you had believed that the Earth was flat, and now you found out that is was a sphere what would you do? Live in denial because of the fear of changing your belief system. Or accept the facts and move on? The OT is just plain stories. There is just so much that has been refuted and contradicts what we know today. The NT stands up slightly better, but falls over under impartial scrutiny. These things you have discovered for yourself. There are natural explanations for all the big questions that religion used to claim to have the only answers for. There is no need for a god to exist. There is no evidence that god exists. So why believe in a myth? Learn to accept the universe as it really is, and get on with your life. Do what you think is right, and what brings joy to yourself and others as much as you can because this life is all that you have to do that in.

If you love Miley Cyrus, as your screen name suggests, you're probably the same age I was when I started to doubt. It was like finding out about Santa Claus for me; figuring out that the God described in the Bible couldn't exist was reassuring, and the world made more sense.
The Bible is myth in the technical sense. It's a series of stories meant to explain the inexplicable and to instruct morally. Where do rainbows come from? God's promise not to flood the earth any more. Why do bad things happen to good people? Read Job or Ecclesiastes for the Biblical take. Is revenge a good idea? No, Jesus says turn the other cheek.
Did Jesus exist? Maybe. Despite what true believers will tell you, the external evidence is pretty shaky. They will cite Tacitus and Josephus as the major external sources of Jesus' life. But Tacitus was a pretty notorious third-hander when it comes to evidence; he was pretty willing to write something without checking it out, it seems, like a reporter more interested in a good story than the facts.
And the mention Josephus gives to Jesus is out of character for how he writes and reacts to other events. It's not a big stretch to imagine some nameless scribe in the fifth century re-editing Josephus so Christianity comes out sounding better. (No original copies of Josephus' work survive.)
I've told you what I think, but that's not what you have to think. Don't let fear or guilt guide your thoughts on this topic. Don't act to impress others, or to avoid punishment. Think for yourself -- you're the only one who can.

All religions are based on myth or superstitions. Myths and superstitions explain the unexplainable. They are used to give meaning to our existence, and to answer what our cognitive reasoning can not fathom. They give hope to those who can not, or will not accept the possibility that our existence, and the whole of this universe may have no definitive reason for being -- that we may not be that important, outside ourselves. Religion has served to save lives, destroy lives, and control lives. Whatever you decide to believe in, believe in it from the heart. Your heart! Remember that all religious texts, the bible included, were written (and edited) by people -- and not just people, but people who lived a long time ago, with a different agenda, a different knowledge, and a different way of thinking than today. Their world was a different world, and their lives had different meanings.

I believe that their was a Jesus for sure.. It has been documented not only in the bible but as well as in other documentation during that time..Romans..Sorry you are so confused..It happens to alto of people.. You need to do some research for your self that is not of a religious form..But if the real death happened that is the question to many and to others it is the miracles preformed..It is faith that we believe you need to such and answer your own heart..
just for one moment lets say their is no havens or hell and this was right..Nothing to lose right..
But lets say that this is right...There is a heaven and their is a Haven and their is a Hell.. Then I have nothing to lose and everything to gain..
It is hard to prove many things.. such as.. were did man really come from...ape,one cell enigma from the sea..No ONE person really knows the true answers but if you only had the faith of a mustard seed you could move mountains..
Dear One Search Your thoughts...Make your arguments as you will..
But it is by faith not sight.
But for so many like you it takes discovery and hard core proof.. We are talking about artifacts that are either under sand or it is an area that will not allow arcoligest(sp) to dig.. even today
A while back they found...
An inscription in stone, found in or near Jerusalem and written in a language and script of 2,000 years ago, bears the words "James, son of Joseph, brother of Jesus."
This could well be the earliest artifact ever found relating to the existence of Jesus, a French scholar has concluded in an analysis of the inscription being published this week in the magazine Biblical Archaeology Review.
If the inscription is authentic and indeed refers to Jesus of Nazareth, it would be the earliest known documentation of Jesus outside the Bible. The magazine, which announced the find today, is promoting it as "the first-ever archaeological discovery to corroborate biblical references to Jesus."
I am sure more will be on the way...Since so many need the proff as they said in a TV show once..The proof is out their we just have to belive and find it...

Honey, I think there are alot of us out here that are feeling the same things. I don't believe the bible anymore and if Jesus was actually on this planet, I don't think we would know anymore about him then what we know about any other person who lived during that time period. I am listening to my inner person and that's where I have been looking for answers lately. Don't let anybody make you feel guilty for researching, studying and finding your own way. Just keep on searching and eventually the confusion will give way to clarity. It's a wonderful day when that happens. Blessing on your Spiritual Journey!

Maybe Jesus was the name of a character in a play. And over time, people who had not seen the play but only heard the story somehow started to believe it was actually true. Next thing you know there is a religion based on a fictional story that was meant to both entertain and teach good morals. I suspect we are only a few decades away from people actually believing that Star Wars really happened.
On a more serious note do a search on Jesus, Mithras, Krishna, and Horus. See what comes up. Compare and contrast. It os obvious to many of us that the Jesus character was simply copied from other popular religions. However, several people will disagree. Look at their reasons for disagreeing and weigh those reasons against the facts.

In the end you have to make the decision that is right for you and that you feel most comfortable with. Science can often be twisted in the direction of what a person wants to believe. Also remember that NOTHING can be proven 100%. But of anyone that does choose to follow Jesus and the teachings of the Bible, faith is required. My suggestion to you would be to simple get on your knees and pray about it and then listen to the feelings in your heart, not the feelings in your head, because when God speaks it is to the heart so that is where your answer will be.
