I am not able to run anymore and want to keep in shape. I want a moderately priced bike that is a hybrid. Thanks.

I am tall, 6'3 and looking to bike between 5-10 miles at a time. Maybe increase it over time.

I don't know much about hybrids. But I think that the most important issue to find in a bike is how it fits you. If the horizontal top tube length it's too long or too short you will feel either too stretched out or cramped.

Search different bikes, if possible visit two bike shops at least so you get different opinions. Try to ask for a test drive.

If you want to look into hybrids I would definitely recommend the Trek FX series. It is a comfortable and relatively fast bike. The Trek 7000 series is also good. I would also look into Raleighs (check out the Passage series), as they tend to be more moderately priced and of good quality. Good luck!

I suggest going to local bike shop and test riding some in the price range you are willing to pay. For as many bike that are made there is no way you will get the perfect answer here.

My advise is to go to several bike shops, tell them your price range, and try out the bikes. If you can't test drive, don't buy. Slick tires take much less effort to ride than knobbies, unless you do a lot of off road and need the knobbies. *Don't* go to a generalized merchandise store (like Target or Wal-Mart) and buy a cheap bike. The components will be poor quality, the fit will be terrible, and you'll end up not riding it.
