Everything you own is taken away from you, ex- car, money, job, etc. You get to keep your family, home, and food. Your home is paid for and your food will be furnished for you at all times. Now, would you want all of your things back? Or would you start a new kind of life? Why?

I would be distraught. My things arent merely things. They are very important to me. Some of my things are expensive--tv, stereo. Some of my things were a big purchase for me--my car. I spent forever car shopping. I picked it out and I love my car. I saved up for years to be able to afford it and feel it really represents me as a person and is a symbol of adulthood and being financially independent.

Items in my house are from my grandmother. Items were bought on trips--so that everytime I look at it, I remember the trip my husband and I took to Cozumel, to NYC, etc. My wedding pictures are not replaceable. My husband and I spent forever making a collage of us through the years. I look at that every day. We took a w/e trip all the way down to Hilton Head just to buy a massage chair. He remembers that w/e every day when he sits in that chair. As we have advanced in our careers, we've traded out our posters for real artwork. One purchased on our honeymoon, 2 because we know the artist personally.

I'd rather have my stuff and have my house taken. I can get another house. I'd rather they take all the food--I live right beside a store. I can go buy more.

Some people don't have sentimental attachment to stuff--but I do. I would be devastated.

Now I would still start a new life--b/c life goes on and I'd have no choice. It would also be different if I needed to start a new life. If I had something I had to get away from and for some reason--the stuff had bad memories. Women in an abusive relationship often abandon everything, b/c their lives are worth more than the stuff and the stuff has memories better forgotten. But I like the life I have and I am happy with the memories I have. I'd hate to loose all of that.

I would start a new kind of life although part of me would still want my things back.

On the brighter note, at least I still have my family whom no one shall replace. And at least, I could save money since the home is paid! And I can still survive with the basic necessities such as food and home.

Come to think of it, I may also become more appreciative of living a simple life.

I've done this more then once - yes, I start over - I have a problem with being bored, I love and crave adventure - ANY"thing" can be started over - I am happy with whatever comes my way and try to make the best of it.

I, for one, would certainly want my stuff back. I have an extensive library of books and dvds, several altars to my favorite gods, and plenty of other cool odds and ends, the loss of which no amount of indefinitely free room and board could make up for.
