My neighbor's daughter just came up to me yesterday and started asking me questions. She was all by herself and I don't know my neighbors at all.

I would never let my child do that!!!

absolutely NOT!

that is exactly how pedophiles gain the trust of children..by befriending them, by playing the wonderful neighbor, by asking questions about your childs schedule while you are out of earshot. WAKE UP PARENTS! what harm could it do? A LOT!

some parent's seem either clueless, careless or just plain don't GAF about their children. that disturbs me!
there was a lady *2 yrs ago* that had her 1 1/2 yr old wander off down the block and he ended up at my house, in nothing but a dirty diaper. it scared the crap out of me to think that this child walked 2 blocks away from his house and his mother never even noticed.
the police found her watching TV in her house completely unaware of what had been going on. ANYONE could have taken off w/this little boy.
i was livid!! CPS took the baby, and she [the mother] moved. i don't know what happened to him after that. kinda makes you wonder why some ppl breed!

No I wouldn't; how old was the child anyway? If you're talking about a toddler or a pre-adolescent child I wouldn't encourage it. The other thing that interests me, is that you phrased it as though this was something that the parent encouraged, or was aware of. Just because the parent doesn't encourage the child to do so, or told them not to, doesn't mean that the child won't. You have to look at the dynamic between the parent and the child's relationship, and whether or not such advice contradicts the way that the child is being raised; in other words it isn't OK to talk to complete strangers, but the child doesn't know why, or it's OK to talk to some but not others ...

My kids aren't allowed to talk to anyone we are not friends with alone. And, even "friends" and some family members must be closely monitored, as these are the people who are most likely to abuse your child. (Statistically).

I would probably talk to the girl's mom, and see what is going on. Maybe the girl slipped out of the house, unnoticed. How old the girl is, also plays a part. Some people think once they hit a certain age, they are okay... Maybe the mom sent her daughter over on a "spy mission". My mother in law does this a lot. Awful.

My neighbors are like that. They have a little girl whos 4. She was wearing a bathing suite playing outside. My dad whos like 45 whas washing the car. She comes running up to him and starts talking and asking him to make her some bubbles with the car wash soap. My dad is a good guy, he wouldnt do anything to anyone...but thats not the point. Would you let your kid talk to a stranger while in a bathing suite? Some parents are so stupid....

My 7 year old tends to talk to the neighbors alot. I have told him over and over that if I don't know them he shouldn't talk. I did tell him if one of his friends parents speaks to him he should answer. Maybe this child is used to being around adults. My son was always around adults for a long time and he seems to confuse other children alot because he speaks so mature. I would walk the child back home and meet her parents in the process. They might not even know she was doing it.

Her parents probably had no idea she was talking to you. To answer you question, I don't mind my kids talking to the neighbors as long as it's outdoors and I know where their at. I would never allow them to go indoors with the neighbor, but what harm could talking do?

I guess every neighborhood and every situation is different. In some neighborhoods, I would never trust my kids to talk to anyone on the street, but in my own, I feel safe and feel like my neighbors are decent enough to allow them to have a conversation with my kids.

ha thats nothing. my neighbors are across the fence and live in appartments...we have a basketball hoop outside and they jump our fence to use it...I don't mind really it keeps them out of trouble you know but there are these two little guys...I m talking 8yrs. and 3yrs. brothers...no parents..coming up in OUR back yard...fenced in I have no idea who their mother is or where she is...ever! But no I would never let me kids do that especially if I didn't know who my neighbors were. You never know these days. Your awesome neighbor could turn out to be some freak!

Of course not, what with all those pedophile that surrounds us I won't let my child go out my door if I'm not going with her. And talk to the neighbors, ha, they're the ones that easily molest and abduct your children. People need to be more vigilant with their children in these crazy days.

thats a little weird
hmm maybe her parents and her arent too close and she just wanted to talk to sum1. if thats the case, u shud be polite and talk to her too. And maybe u shud go over to ur neighbors house and introduce urself. take a pie or cake over and make polite converstaion. ull find out what u want to kno and ull see how the parents are with their daughter. And see if theyre teh kind of parents who just let their daughter do wutever she wants.

That seems odd. I let my daughter talk to our north neighbor, but she's 90, deaf, and my daughter doesn't know I'm watching her through the kitchen window. :)
