i have both of my shoulder blades tattooed. (as you can see from my profile picture) the first one didn't hurt THAT bad compared to some of the tattoo pain i have experienced. the second one hurt considerably more, i found out why afterward. the number of needles used while tattooing (in my opinion) makes a huge difference in the pain level, the more needles the more pain but the faster the tattoo is done.
the first i would rate about a 3-4 on the pain scale the second time i would rate it at about a constant 7. no pain, no gain right?
as far as memorial tattoos go i love them when done properly. portrait tattoos are something that not every artist can do and very few can do well. i have seen WAY too many horrible portraits so just be sure to get someone who has an extensive portfolio of portraits so you can be sure that you'll get what you want.
good luck!

Why mark your body up for life? Your perfect the way you are and adding someone elses opinion of art to your body won't make you any prettier or sexier or any more attractive and might get you a disease or infection. If your set on getting a label placed on your body try a temporary tattoo. It comes off in a couple of weeks. Permanent Tats hurt, some more then others.

I did a cross and flowers with date of birth on top and death on bottom. name in center. All tattoos are different in degrees of pain. The worst part at least for me was the outline. Coloring the pain is fleeting but that is just me. Each on of us has a different threshold for pain so what does not hurt to me may be very painful for you.

not really. me and my sister both got one at the same time and she past out! they say the chest it the best but i would not want something like that on my chest! anyhow, just eat well before you go and after it is started there is really not much pain. you kinda go numb there. However, it is a thousand tiny little needles going it your skin. make sure the shop is clean!

No one can answer that question but you, when you get it.
Everyone is different, someone might hate it there, another might love it there.
The only way to find out is do it.
