in college, the kids I knew who studied industrial engineering basically learned economics and took engineering prerequisites: physics, chemistry, calculus, computer science maybe, statistics, and macro economics, micro economics, econometrics (which is econ with multiple regression analysis...aka complicated statistics mostly automated with computers but u need to understand the concepts), and maybe at higher levels you learn more about manufacturing processes, business, finance, math applied to factory production or financial models. that's my impression. The guy who lived next door in my dorm did industrial engineering. it was basically some econ and business with engineering coursework. it is one of the less intense engineering majors that is more business oriented. a great major to do before getting your MBA or trying to go into banking or some competitive Wallstreet job, assuming you have top grades are from the right university.

Graduate studies in industrial engineering focus on these areas: Stochastic Modeling and Analysis, Optimization, Financial Engineering, Production and Logistics, Decision and Risk Analysis, Applied Statistics and Quality Engineering, and Organization Theory and Systems Analysis. I pulled that from the Northwestern University web site...see links below. The Cornell IE site seems really good. (first link below here)

You have two very good answers, defferent but correct. So I will give you a take from another angel.

When lots of Industrial work was manual processes, they had engineers doing work process studies. They would use stop watch and time the processes base on that plannner would schedule the woek. It started as work steady- work-time tudy ...they were suppose to get most work done with least amount of time and labour(eficiently, economicaly), time is money.

Study as applies to day.

In the college they take statistics, engineering, science, finance, economics, and labour law courses. It is true that lots of it is done on cumputer with purchased programs, to day, but they do take lots of applycable cumputer courses also, at all levels.

There are 2 information on the thank you to grow to be an business Engineer. One is to pass into it upon getting a appropriate degree, the different with the aid of engineering, regularly by utilising the drawing place of work. there's a hierarchy as in the different form of artwork. business Engineers artwork interior the business Engineering branch of a producing company and cope with each and all the engineering concerns which get up interior the production facility. some business Engineers are in common terms hands-on, and a few are designers or draughtsmen the precise point is the business fashion designer who in lots of situations has a level and runs the dept. i replaced into one myself, and that i worked with 3 directors - production, revenues, and coping with. My household projects have been to advance new strategies, equipment and products, advance production facility circumstances, estimating, fee help, and convalescing production facility platforms and procedures. It in touch a great form of travelling. production facility upkeep replaced into finished by utilising a colleague, yet may even join the dept. Writing month-to-month comments replaced into between the fewer exciting jobs.
