It is extremely unlikely that an individual would die from water intoxication by drinking 8 glasses of water daily so there must be more to the story that you are referring to. If your fluid expenditures are not increased by heat, physical activity, or illness the body requires approximately 1500 ml per meters squared of body surface area daily. There are several different formula and several charts on-line to calculate body surface area. In my case my body surface area is precisely 2 meters squared and I require therefore approximately 3 liters of fluid daily. Assuming a 'glass' to be 12 ounces 8 glasses of water per day would be 2880 ml daily - which is just under my daily need - and clearly would not cause a typical adult any harm.

6-8 glasses a day
I'm a pure water drinker, and I usually don't drink anything other than water, unless it's milk.
So I usually drink a LOT of water during one days, and sometimes it's more than 8 glasses, but I don't think you could drink TOO much water, to a degree... it's not going to kill you if you drink 9 glasses.

Doctors and nutritionalists will tell you that you should drink 8 8ounce glasses of water a day. DO NOT drink it all at one time or after 7pm (unless you like getting up all night to use the bathroom).
You can get what they call water poisoning if you drink too much water or too much at a time (hence do not drink the 64 ounces at one time, see above note).

I used to own a weight loss franchise. We asked members to drink 8 eight ounce glasses of water a day. If your not a big water drinker you will have to work your way up to 8 glasses per day. Sometimes adding fresh lemon helps.

Your supposed to drink something like 7 or 8 glasses a day. By glasses i would take this as meaning tumbler style rather than pint glasses. I think it equates to 2 or 3 litres a day.

you would have to drink much more than 8 glasses to die. Most people don't know that u get water from many sources like fruits, milk, juice, tea...so u don't really need the 8 glasses a day.

many years ago a study was carried out in the US to determine the amount of water the average person in average conditions would need to take in to function properly.
The study found that about 2 litres was required and the findings were published, the actual quote said " The human body requires approximately 2 litres of water per day,but most of this is taken in with a balanced diet of natural foods"
The last sentence was deleted for some reason.
I drink about 2/3 litres of water per day depending on the heat etc.
There is a condition who's name escapes me ,but it is possible to over drink water with the effect of thinning the blood to a point where not enough oxygen is carried around the body but you would have to drink enough to have it coming out of your ears,so don`t worry, just drink 1;5 to 2 litres per day and you will be fine.

no that story is not true. My dr said it is ideal to drink 8 oz every hour. Water is very important, you don't need to worry about drinking too much as a "beginner" . YOu would have to consume gallons in a very short time period for it to cause any harm to your health.

8 cups of water a day unless you are working hard and perspiring, or working out with exercise and it makes you perspire - needless to say...when you exert yourself you need more water.
If you aren't used to drinking 8 cups of water a day, start with what you can handle. Gradually increase it by 1/2 cup at a time until you are up to 8 cups a day.
8 cups of water in a day is not enough to kill an active adult. Cheers!!!
