I am taking my little girl to Manhattan next month for a few days. I would like to take her to a show, I think she would like the glitz and excitment of it.. which one would be best? Mamma Mia is cool - but I've seen it... I can bear to see it again, but there is so much more, I am sure!

Anybody has opinions and suggestions about what would be best? She is more rock than classics, loves reading, love dancing and singing.

Broadway.com has a list of shows that are currently on Broadway and access to tickets for them. For an 11 year old...I would suggest Hairspray. Don't know if you have seen the previews for the movie coming out this summer, but the musical itself is a really great show. Aimed at all ages. Very upbeat and pop/rock. I've heard decent things about Legally Blonde. The Disney classics are always good choices, I'm not a big fan of Tarzan, but my biggest suggestion would be either Hairspray or Beauty and the Beast. Beauty and the Beast closes its run very soon, so it will probably one of your last opportunities to see it. It's an amazing theatrical experience. As is Phantom of the Opera, however your daughter may be a bit young and uninterested, I would suggest it for her mid to late teenage years. The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is also a REALLY good show to see, and your daughter could even have a chance to actually be onstage herself and be a speller! Sorry that I rambled, but I hope it helps! Definitely check out Broadway.com to see all the shows you have to choose from :) I hope she has a BLAST! Broadway is an amazing experience that I didn't get to experience until I was 17...I wish I'd gotten to experience it earlier!

Wicked is a good suggestion. My uncle came to town recently with his young kids (aged 9, 11, and 13) and we went to the Lion King, which all the kids enjoyed. (And we got tickets at the last minute, so I think you'd be fine, but definitely order them now.) My 13-year-old cousin loves Broadway and had also seen Wicked and Hairspray. Hairspray's got a pretty rockin' soundtrack. (I don't think Rent would be appropriate for an 11-year-old.)

Hmmmm... if she is a hip 11 year old, RENT is a pretty rock oriented show... it does have some odd characters, like a gay couple and a cross dresser, and someone living with HIV/AIDS, but it is a lively show with a positive feel at the end...

LION KING is great for all ages, but getting tix 30 days from now would be tricky...

WICKED is a favorite play of one young early teen girl I know. It is the "prequel" to The Wizard of Oz and deals with not judging a book by it's cover... is the evil witch really evil? Who is the "good" witch? Very good for girls. My wife loved it...

Disney has a theatre company on Broadway, so I suggest looking up what's showing and seeing about tickets.
